Hoya 55 mm UV(C) Digital HMC Screw-in Filter, Black

Its Hoya, so its certain to be of excellent quality and it comes in a very smart storage case. I've used Hoya filters for many years, they are the best.Great thing about a UV filter is that if there is no UV it will do nothing - if there is UV it will reduce the blueness of the image. UV is always higher near the sea and at high altitudes, so this filter is essential for taking photographs on the beach, near lakes or in the mountains. It will reduce the blueness and make the colorimetry more natural.And, equally important, it provides cheap, permanent protection for your valuable lens. Just leave it screwed on at all times and your expensive lens will be protected from the damaging acid in fingerprints as well as scratches and dirt.For these reasons I have always kept a UV filter on every lens on all my cameras.

Great filter. An essential item to keep your front element pristine and keep your investment safe. Excellent quality from Hoya and very reasonable price. There’s no point buying anything else. None that are more expensive are better and cheaper one’s s are simply rubbish. I have Hoya filters on all my lenses. They do a great job and cost peanuts against the cost of damage to expensive lenses. The pros don’t use them but they have insurance on their stuff plus income to cover any breakages. As an amateur, I put filters on them. It’s a no brainer.

I bought a 'nifty fifty' canon lens and these items fit is just nicely, not all items arrived at the same time, the hoya lens took a long time to arrive, think it came from Germany, since putting this on my camera & with the lens hood & lens cap I do have to be more vigilant as the camera lens cap tends to just 'pop' off.The hoya lens is a good lens and does a very good job of protecting my main camera lens. I'm fairly new to Canon and photography at this level, I would forsake the lens hood in favour of this lens cap.I've heard all good things about 'hoya' but as a novice I'm still finding my feet on this product. Whilst I believe I have the best product I'm happy to keep using it.

Arrived VERY fast; ordered evening and arrived the next morning, well done amazon :-)This is the 'basic' end of the Hoya range. There are pages and pages of photographic reviews, and too be honest I would expect the far more expensive ones to perform better, however, as an excellent quality 'lens protector' and UV filter this one is very good. I have not noticed any light flare or lens aberration, so one would assume this is how well it mounts to the lens (the lens design) it works very well on my Sony Lenses without any issues. Much thinner than some alternatives, so the lens cap etc still fits. With the High Quality HOYA brand, it is easily worth just a few pounds more than any other cheaper filter rubbish.*TIP* be aware there are LOTS of fake ones out there; this one is genuine; sold, and fulfilled, by AMAZON direct so worth the assurance. I WOULD recommend this filter.

As with other reviewers, I have been convinced to use simple UV filters as protection for my lenses. I have a 52mm and 58mm, both the UV(C) type.This has a slim metal bezel, and hard multi-coated glass, and is well manufactured. It fits nicely on my 50mm lens, and offers a degree of dust and dirt protection, without noticeably affecting the quality of my images. Lots of commentary on the web as to why the UV aspect is probably redundant (UV light doesn't have the same effect on digital sensors as it does on film), but I find the filter works as a lens protector when out and about so I don't need my lens cap all the time and am ready to capture the moment.It is a personal choice as to whether to use a UV filter, some may argue that you're introducing an extra piece of glass between the sensor and what you're imaging, and that if it was really that helpful it would have been built into the lens in the first place.

Great price for a good UV filter. As many people do buying a UV filter is often done for protection more than the UV properties but what we don't want is for that filter to interfere or degrade the results that our lens is capable of, (or as little as possible).I found to my astonishment that the Hoya seemed to be as good if not better than filters such as B&W. Exactly the same performance but the -C is slightly slimmer.

Is good

This well made and slim filter is always at home on my Nikkor 17-35mm f2.8 wideangle, pro zoom, unless I replace it with another Hoya - their polariser (pro digital - which I also review). Its slimness means that it doesn't intrude or vignette (darken) the corners of the frame, even at the widest setting - which on my full frame D700 is wide!It's had a couple of years hard, semi pro use and is still in A1 condition. It's easy to screw on in a hurry and to remove.I'm sure there are better filters out there, but at a much higher price and so my five stars are on the basis of overall value. Compared to the standard, non multicoated and thicker Hoya UV filter, for about the same price (currently) it is noticeably better. I review that one, too but use on a tele zoom. It's extra thickness would cause marked darkening in the corners on the zoom I use this thinner one on.

I have exclusively used Hoya filter for many years and they are always great quality products. This UV filter is especially good for lens protection without affecting color & image quality. I'm ordering a replacement after my camera was dropped lens first onto a sandy/rocky beach. The Hoya filter was damaged and scratched but it saved a $1500 lens.

I've had 3 of these on my other lenses for more than 10 years as well. The coating works very well. Good light tranmission and easy to clean. The light transmission quality was obvious when compared to an older Hoya UV filter of the same 55mm size. That's why I bought this one.
