Yamaha SILENT Brass Trumpet Mute SB7X-2, Complete System

I had the original Silent Brass decades ago, and although good, it never replaced unmuted playing. I haven’t really played for years since moving into my flat, because I didn’t want to upset neighbours. The latest version of Silent Brass is much, much smaller and lighter than previously, has much less blowing resistance, and the sound quality is very realistic. I am now enjoying playing nearly every day. The only negatives for me are that the controls on the side are not well designed, and I cannot really adjust them without looking carefully, and the batteries seem to run down quickly if left in overnight. Best to remove batteries when you finish practice.

I have just taken up the cornet and bought this at the same time as a used Yamaha instrument. It is impressive in terms of sound and muting. Back pressure doesn't seem bad to me, but I haven't played the cornet much without it, so am no expert. It is simple to use, and my only criticism is the quality of the battery compartment cover. I am practising far more than I intended, because there is no sense of annoying the neighbours (which there was while I have been trying the bugle). Love it.

This product has made it easy for me to get back into the music world after a long break. The security of knowing that even the people in my own house cannot hear me; and further that my neighbours are never disturbed by my practice sessions; has been well worth the investment. A great product indeed!
