A must read! I loved the strength of the maia page-turner, couldn’t eat or sleep until the end. Can’t wait to start reading/ Dust to Dust!
I loved the strength of the main character. Love the way the story is written. I recommend this book to all those who light-heartedly believe in a heavenly after life. This book is a page-turner from beginning to end. Can’t wait to read Dust to Dust!

Ashes to Ashes by Melissa Walker
After seeing in another synopsis that this would be reminiscent of Ghost (the movie), I was really excited for this one. And upon further reading of that same synopsis, I saw that it was "perfect for fans of If I Stay by Gayle Forman" and I became really, REALLY excited for it. But unfortunately when I started reading it, I just couldn't get into it. This one was just a big disappoint for me. One reason I didn't like it was it just seemed to be way too young to be YA. I understand that she was dead, but really, your snarkiness just made it seem stupid. I quit laughing at what you were saying and just started rolling my eyes in the first 10%. It's really unfortunate because I don't remember her other novel being like that. But then there is the plot. I was really upset because I was looking for something completely different and this is not what I got. It was basically all about how she was so in love with her boyfriend from 1-7%, then how she died at 8%, and then 8-40% was just about the good and evil in the Prism. And it got boring rather quickly. I stopped at 40% and just skimmed the rest of the way. I just needed to know what it was that her boyfriend was keeping from her to see if my suspicions were correct, but that's all that I really cared about lol I think I'm most disappointed because I loved her first novel and I was expecting this to be more like the movie and book that I loved. I guess that's why you never trust anything that says "based on,' or "for fans of," or "like ______ meets _____." You're more than likely always going to end up disappointed smh

Ashes to Ashes
I thought the book was great. Granted, I really like all of Melissa Walker's books. Ashes to Ashes is definitely different from the other books I have read by her, mostly because of the paranormal story line. It's a good ghost story with an interesting take on death and haunting. But it still has a lot of real world drama that you can relate to. And she always writes a really good love story. They aren't always neat and tidy. They aren't always what they seem. They don't always end the way you want them to. Likewise, her books don't necessarily tie up all the loose ends, and they seem all the more real for it.Warning: the ending was a little bit of a cliffhanger. It's great that I am still thinking about it, but I hope that there will be a sequel.

Different
While I had high hopes for this novel, especially with its claim to be a mix of the novel If I Stay and the movie Ghost, I felt like Ashes to Ashes moved much too slowly for me. Likewise, I didn’t really feel any connections with the characters. Callie dies before we really get to know her, or her friends, for that matter, and once she’s dead, she behaves very much as you would expect a young child to behave when told they can’t have something. She throws some tantrums and goes off and does whatever she wants, pushing caution to the wind, over and over again. In truth, I spent much of the novel highly annoyed with Callie because she continues to make the same stupid mistake while ignoring not only her inner conscious, but also her guide, Thatcher. The fact that Thatcher continually keeps Callie in the dark, refusing to supply answers or clarification, did little to put him in my good graces, either. Instead, he only frustrated me because there seems to be a disconnect and readers don’t know why. And, instead of answers, the same scene plays out many a time, nearly lulling me to sleep: Callie messes up and is really sorry. Thatcher is angry; he tells her not to do it again without really giving any concrete reasons why. They make up. Then, Callie does it again and is really sorry…. By the third time this sequence occurred, I was ready to put the book aside. I just felt like nothing was truly happening in the novel; I had no connections with anyone, and we rarely saw Callie attempting to comfort anyone still left on earth—the aspect I really wanted to see.And then? Walker surprised me with her quick and fast ending—one I wasn’t expecting but that, in retrospect, makes sense. I should have seen it coming, but I didn’t, and this surprise actually brought this novel up a notch in my esteem, clarified a lot of my original issues, and interested me to the point that I actually would like to read the sequel when it comes out. So in the end, while I did finds it someone trivial and stagnant, Ashes to Ashes did throw me for a loop, and as it only takes one small event to really change a person’s perspective of a novel, I liked it, overall.(Please note: I use the star rating system of Goodreads, which is different from Amazon. My overall personal rating was that I like this book.)
