Dual Voltage Shaver Socket 1G Size

Nice and compact.

Had trouble finding a 1gang bathroom rated shaver outlet but this one fits the bill and works fine. Can't say on reliability as only had it a couple of weeks but seems well made. To note when considering installing this, needs a deep (47mm) back box and screws mount vertically so make sure your back box has 4 faceplate threads or if only 2 remember to mount the box on its side

Does the job and visually better than the 2 gang units BUT it is a really tight fit in a deep 1G patress. i used a plastic plasterboard patress and that must give slightly less space to a steel version. I had to cut the outer sleeve to the limit of the box and cut the individual wires short. All to maximise the space.

This is a small footprint neat uint. However be aware that you need to consider that the unit needs a deep back box and as such make sure you can fit a deep back box in to the brick work or wall depth you have to work with. Again be aware that the uint is not flush so any door passing across the surface needs to be considered for clearance. The other thing to consider is that the socket receptacle is angled so you need to consider how high or low you need place the unit on the wall to read the 120 / 230 socket labels. I like this unit and it has enough power through the transformer to charge my electric toothbrush, which is actually what I bought it for, I still use a wet razor, though I might now consider a rechargeable razor for the future.

Whilst this product is ideal in its physical size there is an issue to be aware of. I purchased one of these 15 months ago and it was easy to install. A few weeks ago, I was woken in the middle of the night with a buzzing noise coming from it and there was nothing plugged into it. As it was out of its 12 months guarantee, I order another unit to replace the original. When I took the old unit out I was surprised how hot it was and it concerned me that it might have led to a fire in the house if it got any worse, particularly because it was in a stud partition wall. I replaced the unit with the new one and immediately noted it also had a slight buzz. Nothing compared to the old unit, but soon realised that there must be a consumption of electricity even when nothing is plugged in. I have contacted the manufacturer/ UK distributor and they have ignored my request for information as to energy consumption when idle and potential fire risk. As I could find no alternative compact shaver sockets, I have now, retrofitted an isolation switch in the circuit. In my opinion the shaver socket should be modified to only switch on power when a suitable plug is pushed into the socket.
