Interesting mystery with overlay of Holmes cocaine addiction. A wordy slug to start and more interesting later. Buy this book on sale

Overrated
First, this is a hybrid of a typical novel (dealing with Holmes' drug addiction and the role of Watson and Freud in dealing with it) and a chase story where we know who the bad guy is. Not at all in the golden age whodunit style I was hoping for.I stopped reading two thirds through which is very rare for me. It was enjoyable enough but nowhere near great literature and without the whodunit component just not enough to justify reading fluff.

So sad
Not the best Holmes story ever written. The author could have done bettet-just an opion.

Sherlock Holmes meets Sigmund Freud
Sherlock Holmes has become an opium addict. Watson and Sherlocks brother , Mycroft, bring Sherlock to Vienna to be treated by Dr. Freud and hopefully freed from his addiction.Sherlock treatment is successful. ,While treating Sherlock, Dr. Freud is asked to interview a woman who tried to commit suicide. I have a clearer memory of this story
I read the entire works by Sir Arthur Cohen Doyle when I was a teen and some of the stories were reread. I have a distinct memory of this story because I knew nothing about addiction, drugs and Freud. At that time there was no one to ask and few teachers could explain psychiatry or Freudian Psychoanalysis.I will continue to read these stories.I would recommend any Sherlock Holmes & John Watson stories to any reader (8yo and above).

Did you like A C Doyle's Sherlock Holmes?
Reads like a lost manuscript, a story you might have overlooked in a previous book. Meyer has again put the voice of Watson inside my head and added to the grand collection of Holmes literature.

A classic
Reread this wonderful novel for the first time in more than thirty years and it has lost none of its greatness in that. The best by far of all the ‘discovered’ Watson chronicles and a great and fun read for fans of Sherlock and anyone who likes a good read!

very good.
Satisfying story. The world building is as good as Conan Doyle's. Watson comes across as a sturdy, resolute character who cares deeply for his friend. I liked it a lot.

Good fun
A fun pastiche of the admirable Holmes stories. If you liked the real thing then this should touch the spot.
