This is a brand new full tang hand made razor sharp Damascus steel Japanese Dragon Samurai Tanto knife. Dragons are interesting mystic creatures that can be found in almost every culture. In Japanese culture, specially for the Samurais, dragon is a symbol of courage, luck, and strength. Tanto knives first appeared in the early Kamakura period, and the famous Yoshimitsu (the greatest tantō maker in Japanese history) began his forging. Tanto production peaked around the Muromachi period and then declined in the Shintō period ("new sword" period), when katanas becomes more and more popular. This tanto blade is solidly made with damascus steel. The blade is thoroughly hand hammered and has a consistent hardness across. In the steel constructed tsuba is a swirling three claw Japanese dragon, and the tsuka is made by hardened ray skin. Come with the tanto is a natural wood collector container box.

Amazing knife-many real qualities, has few drawbacks
My knife arrived today. It came in a handmade wooden box lined with satin cloth. The sheath is real wood, with black lacquer.Very solid saya. The knife has a traditional cord/cloth-wrapped sageo handle with iron/steel fittings and pommel. The guard is also made of forged steel, with a nice dragon design encompassing it. It has real (I THINK) Rayskin under the handle. There is also an iron dragon underneath the sageo cord. It has REAL BRASS collar/habaki and spacer. The sword-collar/habaki is on sort of loose and rattles a bit. Does not bother me but it might bother others.THE BLADE: The blade is what amazed me the most. REAL DAMASCUS STEEL!!! It is of tanto design of course, putting forth the fact that the tanto has no curvature to it. Don't worry, it is traditional tanto style and is normal. The knife is a LOT longer in person. Im talking 10 whole inches. I measured. It has blood grooves on it. You can tell this knife was not factory made, it has a scratch or two on it probably made during construction. Despite that, this knife was made by hand by a great blacksmith. My only complaint is the sharpness of the blade. Sure, it cuts paper, but it could be a lot sharper IMO. I think all knives should shave hair, but again, my opinion.Pros: Great knife! Only thing that is fake on this knife are the plastic menuki (Ornaments) Theres only two of them, but no biggie.Cons: Needs to be sharper. Brass collar should not be this loose. Plastic ornaments. Do not let these deter you from the knife, however. TThis knife is amazing at how much quality and REAL qualities you get with this blade. It costs only $50 but feels like it should be worth $200. Buy it. No regrets!

Beautiful Tanto
Got this earlier in the week. It has a beautiful blade; especially when the light hits it just right. The fittings were tight and was slightly difficult to remove them and put them back on. The saya (sheath) is beautifully done, but it does not securely hold the blade. If you were to hold it upside down for any reason the blade will slide out easily; which could lead to a serious injury. The blade is paper-cutting sharp right out of the box. However, the tip is not as sharp as the rest of the blade, but that is no problem for me. Definitely got my money's worth with this tanto and will probably purchase the same tanto with the red saya as well. A must buy for collectors.

it is fine but smaller than expected
the blade : it is well made and it is solid and it is a full tang blade , the handle : the insert is not real rayskin but the cord and the handle components are well tied , the tang guard : solid steel and well tied , the box : cheap wood with s soft cloth that will do its job in storing the knife (although is weak ). the blade is shorter and less functional than my damascus steel full tang united cutlery tantos that i bought in budk at this price range. other than that is a nice blade to have even if a little overpriced for what you get. If i was the company owner i would have cut the expense to produce this knife by eliminating the display box and focus it more in the blade quality , size and functionality.

Very nice.
This is a very nice item. I thought a Damascus blade on a Japanese sword might be a strange combination, but it worked well. In fact, the recipient actually cried when she first saw it! The transaction was quick and professional, and my questions were answered in a timely manner. Thank You!

Gift for a friend
Looks pretty solid for $50. The only thing I don't like is that in the handle it looks like there is Styrofoam behind the grip wrap. Anyways, it will definitely do the job. I'll probably look to buy something a little pricier next time, but as a starter tanto it fills the void.

Quality merchandise!
The striking Japanese dragon samurai tanto sword came beautifully packaged in the high quality collector box.It would have been helpful if a diagram of how to re-wrap the the sword were included.
