Baggy and a step down from the prior version
This is my second pair of Baleaf 4D bike shorts and at 30% on Prime Day I could not pass this up. I absolutely love the first pair I bought. Tight in the right places, padded in the right places (which is why we wear bike shorts, am I right?), side pockets, a rear zippered pocket, and in particular an extra tight band of stretchy stuff right above the knee.At one point I had looked to get another pair and saw that the original pair I bought was no longer available. Sad. But when Prime Day came around and the current version was available on sale, I jumped at it. Just a note: I bought the same size as before, Medium.Unfortunately, this version is a deep disappointment. The fit is problematic. The waist is tight as it should be, and the length is correct, but they do not hug my legs like the previous version, and are downright baggy at the top of my knees. And the stretchy stuff above the knees is gone. Replacing it is “Anti-Slip Leg Grips”. Anti-Slip my old aunt Fanny! There is nothing anti-slip about it. There are these little knobby things that might be anti-slip if the fabric was tight at that point above my knees but as I mentioned at that point the fabric is baggy. I do not like this.I did take them out for a ride to see how the shorts performed. On the plus side the padding does indeed pad as required. And I like the pockets. They’re easy to get to and I think a little bigger than the previous version. On the negative side they rode up on my legs rather than staying tight just above my knees. Grippy they are not.Of course, clothing sizing is relative and someone who is more “robustly medium” than me might find the grippy, knobby things acceptable. I do not.I would return them if I had not worn them. It’s unfortunate and depressing because I have several Baleaf products including a pair of cold weather cycling pants which are great as well as pants for warmer weather which, as it turns out, I’ve only been wearing in the gym when it’s cold outside. Include the older version of the bike shorts and I had no reason not to expect that an updated version of the biking shorts would be at least as good. They’re not. I don’t recommend them at all.UPDATE: As I have mentioned before I have previously had only the best experience with Baleaf and its products. I was contacted by Baleaf customer support and asked how they could resolve the issue to my satisfaction. There were a few suggestions back and forth and we agreed on me getting the next smaller size, a Small, actually, as I am on the cusp between Small and Medium. The Small is tight, still comfortable, but now it’s not baggy anywhere. I am completely satisfied with how this turned out.Just to be clear I am not suggesting that the sizing is not proper or that anyone should get the next size down. The design was changed and my size can go either Small or Medium and in this particular case Small works better for me.Baleaf is a company that one can count on for both excellent products and excellent customer service and this particular instance further proves that.

A good value-priced cycling short
I must like them because I purchased a second pair after using these for a month. I like the roomy side pockets: although I don’t ride with anything in them, they are super useful carrying keys, phone, wallet on the way to and from a ride. Padding is adequate, but I’m happy to have a comfortable seat. Fit on the legs is a little loose, and the fabric is light weight. Grippers on the leg bands are minimal but functional. They are laundered (cold wash, hang to dry) after every ride, and are holding up well. High-end shorts cost $100 more than these shorts and offer more padding and a heavier fabric, but for the price difference, these are comfortable on a 20-30 mile ride and much more affordable.

Fit is nice.
Fit as expected. Better feeling than I thought they would be.Great for the price, not sure how many rides they’ll last though. No issues in their first couple of rides.

Comfortable, sleek, and relatively inexpensive
I'm 6' 195lb with a 32" waist and the Large fits me perfectly. With my big butt and thin waist the sizing can be difficult, but the 20% spandex material can give comfortable wiggle room if you size down. The sizing chart would have had me get an XL, but I bet a Medium would be fine if I lost 5-10lbs.The side pockets are roomy but tight at the same time.

Great chamois
I was a little skeptical based on the price of these shorts, but I had purchased liners from the same company so I gave them a shot. I have used them for a few weeks now on both an indoor trainer and outdoor rides. I rode 100 miles yesterday and was really satisfied with the comfort of the chamois. I was also a little skeptical of the side pockets but have found them very useful. Easier to stick a bar in than twisting my aging shoulders to reach Jersey pockets. The fabric is my only concern now. It seems a little less study than more expensive shorts. Only time will tell. Compared to Pearl Izumi Attack shorts, the chamois is just as good and the price is way more reasonable. We’ll see how they hold up.Update: I have used these shorts for both 100 mile road rides and 4 hour marathon mountain bike race. I actually prefer these shorts to Pearl Izumi Attack shorts. They have held up and the chamois is very comfortable. I am ordering a second pair for the Maah Daah Hey 100 to have a spare pair to change into.

Best value, great 4D padding
Over the Years, I’ve used almost every brand of cycling shorts other than the highest end (like Rapha). I know that padding is very individual due to location and fit - for me the padding is among the best I’ve used. I also like the two side pockets, which you usually don’t get for some reason with other cycling shorts. On the downside, I don’t love the Lycra that they use, but it’s serviceable. The bottom of the short on the leg can stretch out a bit too much and the grips on the leg are not grippy enough at all. But for the price they are an excellent value and work pretty darn well.

XXL is a good fit in 240lbs range :)
Beginner bicyclist here—I have 44-45 inch waist and weigh 240lbs and the XXL fit great.Don’t be concerned how small the waistband is!! When you actually wear the shorts, the waistband stretches nicely and is very comfy and not too tight. They feel secure like some well tied basketball shorts would. Hope this helps somebody :)
