In 1942, the British bastion of Malta was arguably the most bombed place on earth, under siege by German and Italian air and naval forces. Malta's survival was crucial to the protection of Allied convoys in the Mediterranean Sea. When lack of supplies reached near starvation levels, the British government elected a do-or-die relief convoy of cargo ships and tankers, escorted by the Royal navy. What happened over the next two weeks became the stuff of legends.Operation Pedestal, the relief convoy to an embattled and starving Malta in 1942, has been extensively covered, most recently by historian Max Hastings in a full-length history. For a concise account, however, it is hard to beat this new Osprey Campaign series book by Angus Konstam. Konstam covers all the important points, backed by a wonderful selection of period photographs and modern illustrations and battle diagrams. Very well recommended to students of the Second World War.

Es ist einfach zu lesen, das verwendete Vokabular und die Satzformen passen eher zu einem Roman. Aufgrund des vorgegebenen Platzes mangelt es an operationellen Details. Wer tiefer in die Materie einsteigen möchte, dem sei eine entsprechende Buchlektüre empfohlen. Aber auch dafür ist dieses Booklet ein guter Einstieg.
