I use No 6 the most, it will prune just about anything. Every year I send them back to Felco to be serviced, it costs £25 and they come back looking like new. I used these generally 5-6 days a week, so bear that in mind - if you look after yours and use them just occasionally, they will last a really long time. I have tried using cheaper secateurs, there is just no point, it is false economy, but that's just my opinion. Swiss made and Swiss precision I have used these secateurs in a commercial situation for over forty years and never had any problems with them. Normally they would not need tightening until a blade change is required , just a quick sharpen with a small oil stone before work. If they worked loose during normal work then it sounds as though the thread may be faulty. You should have had a small screwdriver blade included in your purchase pack which is really the only tool required for maintenance and is used to tighten the screw which engages the toothed locking device on the secateurs . Check to see if this is missing but essentially if still a problem then check with your supplier. This one is the Felco 6 which is just perfect for the small to medium hand. Swiss-made, to a high standard , the hard steel blade stays sharp for ages and is easy to sharpen when required.
