High spec and powerful multi-role laptop - reduced original review from five to two stars
A potential replacement for a desktop gaming PC if you don't have much space! Excellent build quality, great performance with fast M2 SSD storage and superb graphics in a very reasonably priced, well spec’d and nicely finished package made this a no-brainer for me. It’s a little “chunky” at 16” screen size (IMHO) so I wouldn’t say it would exactly be the ideal “portable” laptop but if you wanted the extra performance for gaming, then I suppose you can develop your muscles a bit and lug it around with you if you wanted to use it at college / uni since It would be a perfectly capable workhorse.It’s upgradable too - The 16GB DDR5 RAM and 1TB Storage can easily be upgraded fairly cheaply by yourself if you need any more. Graphics are Top-End (in 2023) with a nice, high-res screen to boot. This machine doesn’t run too hot but the cooling fans can get a bit noisy when you push it hard. (Like any performance laptop - or desktop, for that matter - so not a big deal really). I’m more than happy to recommend this machine. Added Sep2023 - after 1 year the machine “bricked” after installing and running Gigabyte’s Utility app (which recommends and installs updates to drivers/firmware etc). I followed the recommended update processes and they advised “Successful”, however upon reboot, the machine is completely wrecked and cannot even access the recovery partition to “Factory Reset”. it seems that Gigabyte Support is pretty “thin” to say the least and the recovery partition access seems to be a “known problem” which is not good. I can no longer recommend Gigabyte Laptops after seeing comments of many similar negative experiences after installing updates - something I have never had problems with before, using other brands. (I do have considerable experience).
