Easy as 1-2-3
Well maybe that is a bit of an overstatement but as a complete novice, never held a fly rod, i figured this was a good start and i was not dissapointed. An easy read with helpful hints so as not to hook yourself in the seat of the pants or worse. They even have a section on what to do it you hook yourself or someone else. The detail helps with things I didn't even know existed. Well worth the read and study. Practice what they explain and you should have an enjoyable fly fishing adventure. I know I will.

Informational
First off, I really love the feel of the book from the size to the font to the style of the pages. I began fly fishing a year ago and only just read this book and I feel that this is a good handbook to keep on you and was a good read well worth the money. The drawings and pictures are top quality. The only thing it could have done better is include how to use certain rigs. For example the dry dropper rig. I can't recall the book really telling you the best way to use it. Overall it's a good book to read if your beginning fly fishing.

Great for beginners
Bought this for my husband. We have taken lessons at Orvis so I wanted something to reinforce and learn more techniques. It won’t replace actually learning from a teacher, but great to go along with it.

Excellent book for beginners.
The best I have read thus far. Very informative and easy to understand. Helps when you start out in a sport which can seem complicated and full of buzz words.

A rare text of brilliance
You occasionally get to read a great book in life where everyone marvels at your knowledge and are surprised at how short a time you’ve actually been involved in your gifted activity… THIS book is one of those fantastic books! I have in such a very short time learnt so very much knowledge about my brand new pursuit… fly fishing. Both technical and insider knowledge and I’ve even surprised far more experienced anglers with my abilities. I haven’t been on the water for more than a month yet and I’m being asked questions by those unknowing of my experience, they think I’m years in. I also read a behavioural book on trout called, ‘The Mind of The Trout’ by Thomas C. Grubb jr., a cognitive ecology of this great and highly intelligent fish. I will be reading more Orvis and Tom Rosenbauer publications. Caspian S. Lawrence
