New heater had a manufacturing defect not discovered until warranty service. At first it seemed it was the heater elements which I bought to expedite service . Note : this is reimbursable with prior approval. Ive decided to just keep these since the whole heater got replaced . If and when the heater elements do need replacement I have them on hand now. These appear to be much better quality than the genaric types

The bottom element shorted out and melted my wires and I wound up replacing the water heater two days later
