The cups are definitely deep enough for votives, but apparently, that is "verboten." So, now I have to go out and buy tea lights. Not a big thing, and the item is still cute, but I don't know why the description specifically states "add the candles of your choice" when that isn't really accurate.

ADORABLE! Not cheap looking and makes a GREAT table centerpiece for Halloween. I put in some flameless candles and it looks awesome.
