does this need to be attached to a base or can it stand without one?

It can stand without one - but it looks not very nice, because you see the rubber. You can put a band around...

Hi do you have smaller sizes? I am looking for a replacemnt globe with an opening diameter of around 25mm. Thank you

the smalles is the 65mm diameter globe....

80mm is that the base?

No. 80mm is the diameter of the widest part of globe. You can see the measurements in the several pictures ...

Can anyone confirm what the base width is of this as I plan on using an existing base / insert?

The outside diameter of the opening at the base is 47mm, inside about 43mm
