Q: What material are the templates made from? I am hoping to adapt them to use in dyeing fabric.

They are a heat resistant plastic, at least able to stand up to being ironed. I cannot tell if they would resist or absorb dye.

Q: Csn you use these to make a donut shaped applique?

These are really made to make “perfect circles”.... you would cut your fabric larger (1/4”)....and baste around, pull the basting thread to draw it up around the circles.... and press. There is no way to draw up the center in that way. However, you could use a smaller circle and lay over for that interior donut hole..., Or Use a pencil on the back and draw your circle hole and carefully cut/fold back and press to get your donut hole. Since you are going from a smaller space to a larger it will have to have small “cuts” to allow it to stretch (so to speak) and appear to be nice and smooth rather than a flat side. I did not particularly like these as the plastic is rather thin....but I do use them.
