No it doesn't come with a ground stake, I just put it in a 3 legged stand where my previous solar ball was on.

Q: Can they float on the water?

I think the maker of the product clearly advises not to put it in the water, although the product is designed to withstand many kinds of weather conditions except extreme cases.

Q: After using for a brief period of time my 12" globe light has gone very dim (it is fully charged). Is this a defect, or is there a brightness control?

I expect to receive my 12" ball in a few days. I've been using an 8" ball for about a week or so, and I am very satisfied as of this writing. The quality of the product and packaging was excellent, IMO. So, I recently ordered a 12" ball from the same maker. I initially planned to wait for the price to drop, but I just wanted to finish my project ASAP. Right now, I expect the quality of the 12" ball I ordered to be as good as my 8" ball. I have a full confidence in the maker of these balls. If you are unhappy with your product for any reason, you should contact the maker for advice. Maybe, just maybe, you received a lemon. It could happen to anybody no matter what you buy. I wish you good luck and good health no matter how the world treats you.

Q: Does this globe have auto on and off?

Yes. It automatically charges during the day and turns on at dusk. Be aware that do not put it near strong light otherwise it may not work properly.
