Is this fire very noisy when working ? I already have a Dimplex similar to this and the fan is extremely noisy, worse when using just the light.

It is similar to any fan heater - you know it is on but it is not bothersome - and most noises annoy me fairly easily

Would it be safe to fit stove into a backless fire surround? There would be 9cm clearance each side and 25cm gap from top of stove to mantelpiece.

Yes I thik it will be safe as this is not a gas fire but electric and the warm air comes out in the front of the fire at bottom. I have mine against a cabinet and it is perfectly o.k.

Can you plug this into an extension lead?

Yes, standard 13 amp plug so would work fine plugged into an extension cable.
