Leather crafts
hardy, well made sewing machine. watch when un packing if arm is down the needle will poke ya ( ask me how i know lol) wasnt hard to put together, stand a little off, but i didnt buy it for the stand. works great on saddle skirting, and thick leather for holsters, and lighter leather as well for like tank bags, saddlebags.

Rough but functional.
This is a rough tool that works. The included instructions suck but youtube has a lot of videos that address the setup and use. The tool needs to be cleaned and setup when you receive it. The timing was way off on the one I got. It is a project to get it work reliably. Budget at least 10hours. BUT when properly set up it does a really nice job. Good tight, high quality stitches. It will sew as good as the operator when properly set up. If you want to sew leather you will need bigger needles and stronger thread. It will sew very heavy leather stacks. Advice: Throw that silly tripod stand away, it is not worth the effort. I mounted mine on a wood base. All-in-all it is an exceptional value for the money.

Great deal for the money.
This was supposed to be a used (returned) item so the price was great. Everything was still in the original packaging. Only the instructions were missing. They're useless anyway so no big deal. I've watched videos and the machines always seemed clunky buy mine is silky smooth in operation. No problems. These machines have a walking foot but no presser foot so they can only be recommended for leather or very stiff materials.

Parts Missing
Several screws are missing from the package. Although it works, but the turning of the wheel is not the easiest.

A Nightmare
A nightmare to operate. Very difficult to keep operating without something going wrong and having to start over.

Shoe cobbler in 2025, good buy
After having this product for sometime now you never know when you'll need a durable high quality easy to use shoe cobbler. Not only do I use it to do embroidery on vans and convers shoes but comes in hand for leather stitching. I never thought in this day and age I would need a shoe cobbler but it is useful in may ways.

Basic but does what it's meant to do very well
Read a lot of reviews, watched a lot of videos, decided to go for it. I LOVE IT. Yes its not refined, so you can put some elbow grease into it and polish it up a bit which also just helps you get to know how the machine operates. Mine worked straight out of the box but I still sanded some edges and painted a few things, gave it kinda a john deere theme. It pays to play with needle and thread sizes etc. This thing will sew thru 1/2" leather easy. I've sewn threw a 3/8" thick book spine I put a cover on (maybe not quite recommended but it did it). I am probably going to purchase a second one so I can move between machines without having to rethread during a project. Purchase extra bobbins! They are small and for a good reason, as that helps the arm of the machine to remain small and able to fit in tight places.

Chinese cobbler sewing machine setup/mods
I gave this 4 stars only because of all the modifying/setup you need to do to get up and running. But for the price its 5 star all day. Things to note before buying one of these sewing machines. It needs a ton of setup and a few modifications before it will run smooth. Especially If you are sewing leather. Also putting it together can be tricky so go slow. Once You put it together, wipe all the grease off the machine and re-lubricate the bearings, pivot points, and wheel. First if you are sewing leather you need to grind or file down the under side of the needle foot. The teeth are way to sharp and dent, scuff and mar up the smooth side of the leather. I filed and sanded it down with 500 grit until the leg doesn't leave any marks on the leather. Second, the bobbin needs to be grinded and sanded smooth and at a slight angle on the underside of the edges by the hook or thicker thread will be sheered by the edge as its sharp. Bevel the entire underside and round off with 500 grit. Third, sand and polish the topside of the table arm as there might be burs in the metal plate that covers the bobbin. Mine had 3 burs that cut the leather as the leg moves into the next stitch. Easy fix, sand with 240 or 400 grit. Fourth, adjust the needle tube so that the needle barely touches your finger on the bottom of the table arm. There is a hole the needle passes through. Dipping to far will cause tangles. Not enough the needle will not pick up the bobbin thread. Fifth, with the wheel handle at 12 o'clock make sure the bobbin cradle wall is facing 3 o'clock or the timing will be off and cause problems one being the needle will not pick up the bobbin thread. Sixth, the upper tension should be fairly tight. The bobbin tension should be just a hair tightened with thicker thread. I use T135 #138 420D bonded nylon thread. This machine is not made for super thick thread. T277 snapped every time and broke needles because of friction. I use 130/21 with T135 #138 thread. I hear the thickest thread you can use is T207. Seventh, for leather use leather specific needles. They are 15X1LL/15X1 HAX1 flat face. Organ needles sells them on amazon for $7.85. Depending on thread size play with tension. If your machine has 2 upper tension plates play around with using only one with thicker thread. Thinner thread may need both. I personally only use the one closest to the wheel with T135 thread. If it only has 1 ignore this. The machine is very worth it once you get it set up. There are a ton of youtube videos to help. I use my machine to make leather holsters with 9-10oz full grain cowhide leather with no issues. Hope this helps. Cheers.
