Village Skating Pond with Sound, with 4.5V Adaptor #94048

I purchased this skating pond a few years ago and it has quickly become one of my family's favorite Christmas decorations. Admittedly, the first one I received did not turn on and the Amazon vendor I purchased from promptly swapped it out at no cost to me. Once we had it set up, it did everything we wanted it to do and more.Reading the other reviews, there seems to be some misconceptions about this product and hopefully I can help with a few of those.The scale is very close to our other Christmas village pieces. While Lemax tends to be a little unique in this area, e difference between the scale of this and our other pieces is not distracting or even noticeable.The skaters do not crash into each other if you follow the directions. Ours runs for hours on end and we have had no incidents like that. The directions state clearly as to where each figure should be placed prior to starting. This is important because some are single figures and others are double figures (two characters or a character and a sled, etc). The single figures will make sharper turns while the doubles steer clear of the single-character traffic. Follow the directions and you will have no mishaps.It comes with quite a few characters and extras (trees, light pole, hot cocoa stand, etc). These can be used around the perimeter of the pond or away from it all together.The motor makes no noise while in use, it is quiet.There is a volume control if you want Christmas jingles and little voices that simulate the sounds of the crowd skating. These sounds bring our own noire Christmas village to life and the volume can be adjusted from loud to no sound at all.Like most village pieces, they are fragile and need to be handled with care.I would advise not running the pond constantly. It looks great with no movement and we turn ours on for an hour or two each night and then again on Christmas morning. Like all moving parts, it certainly has an engine life. I'd imagine that turning it on and leaving it that way for pronlonged periods would dramatically cut into the life of the product, much like a car or anything else.I hope this information helps. My family loves this product and it is a real part of our Christmas tradition now. Proper use and care should make this a great value and part of the Christmas spirit at your house too.

Bought this one last year. Worked okay, dispite the fact that it was used. The moving pieces have a "felt" bottom that was almost completely worn off. Like some other reviewers have said, I should have opened the box and set it up right away. It is nice, though. If you decide to get one, open it up and try it right away. We'll see how long it lasts. Pay attention to where to put the skaters. The instructions are pretty clear.Follow-up... (dropped from 3 to 1 star) I got it out this year and the motor only lasted 1 day. Now it doesn't work anymore. I'm fairly handy and if I can find a replacement motor I will replace it. The sounds still work and the motor is still getting power. On the inside, there are magnets that rub up against the plastic under the "pond". The inside was covered in dust from where the plastic was being worn away. Guessing this powder caused the motor to fail. It this is the case, then it sounds like a design flaw.

I bought this as part of my Christmas decor and my 6 year old granddaughter was enchanted! She loved unpacking it and getting it set up. We watched the skaters and made up stories about them. It worked perfectly! Now I just can't wait for Christmas to display it front and center!

Do not purchase this item! The bad reviews are true as I discovered from my experience. I had a Lemax skating rink for 9 years until it finally died. I purchased this one in 2019 as a replacement, anticipating the same quality, even though the reviews said otherwise. Well, this unit operated for about 50 hours last year. I hooked it up this year, it ran for about 2 hours and quit. I’m contacting the vendor, eHobby Tools, to see if there’s any warranty, but I doubt it since it’s over a year old. So, unless you’re OK with paying $100 to have a pond with skaters that don’t move, don’t purchase this item.Update, 12/24. Well, eHobby Tools did send me a replacement, much to my surprise, so I used it in my holiday train garden in 2021 with no problem. In 2022 the switch malfunctioned and it wouldn’t shut off, but it still worked through the 2023 season. Set it up this year and it ran for about 2 hours and finally died. I think the moral to this story is that the days of having a Lenox skating rink work for several years is over - the quality is no longer like it used to be. That being said, it’s really nice looking when it’s working, just don’t expect much longevity out of it.

I had been looking for a skating pond with skaters for a long time when I finally found this one and bought it. It didn't disappoint. I love the way the skaters glide around on the "ice"! I can't wait for the Christmas season to get here so I can set up my village with the brand new skating rink.
