I really enjoy Max Mephisto and a glimpse back stage into a theatrical / movie world that doesn't exist anymore. The characters in the series are developing, having to adapt to the swinging sixties and being British everyone seems a little depressed, must be the rain. The murder plot itself was a bit convoluted, as they tend to be, and I didn't have a clue until the end. Fun

This is the 6th book of a series that currently has 7 and I have read them in order. This was first published in 2021. The book has 337 pages split into 34 chapters. The recurring characters are solid and get better in each book, always being an intrinsic part of the plot. This novel has a suspected murder at its core and there are many characters brough in to support the story. The new cast members are all fairly two dimensional and seem to have been created to sit in specific boxes - this gives the novel a definite Agatha Christie vibe where characters are brought in to do a job and developed no further than they need to be. In contrast to the treatment of the new people is the way that Elly Griffiths deals with Emma, Edgar, Sam and the others - they are nurtured and given realistic/emotional backgrounds that effect their every action. As usual with her stories, I didn't work out the murderer which always leaves me slightly disappointed with myself. Once the reasons are revealed it is clear that clues have been left and the conclusion all makes sense. I enjoyed this book.
