Superb Summation of Gilders Information Theory of Economics
This book acts as a summation and extension of Gilder's alternative option to mainstream/orthodox economics - the Information Theory of Economics - ITE. The book refines this theory down to its core essence and is accessible to most although some may find themselves needing to refer to previous works on the ITE by Gilder to give added background and understanding. In this edition he introduces the concept of 'time-prices' which completes the theory by measuring the creation of new knowledge by time - 'you pay in dollars and cents but the true cost is in hours and minutes' needed to work to pay for the good or service at hand. A deeply philosophical and practical look at the nature and creation of wealth that once again elevates the non-material characteristics and qualities of humans that generate material wealth and abundance. WEALTH = KNOWLEDGE, GROWTH = LEARNING, MONEY = TIME. The key element in all of this is SURPISE which is the effect of true CREATIVITY and therefore INNOVATION.For some of us GILDERITES, not quite the Magnum Opus we were perhaps anticipating and I felt that the transcript was perhaps over edited/refined taking away some of the trademark Gilder incisiveness and visionary dimension to make the concepts and book more accessible to a wider audience. I would have liked him to connect the content with some of his writing on 'mind over matter' and creativity of the mind and more on the negation of marxism etc to give more of a broader-based visionary dimension which is Gilders trademark. However, the book is well thought through and presented from what can be a very complex topic/s and is made crystal clear for new and former readers and followers of Gilder and/or the field of economics. The book is less than 200 pages so very accessible for these compelling ideas and a much superior framework for economic thinking and understanding of the structure of reality that always exerts itself regardless of mainstream economics attempts to manipulate the economy towards certain ends and to short-cut the innovation process and how wealth and wellbeing is really created and achieved.

Economic thinking at its best
George Gilder successfully navigates us outside of Plato’s cave into the sunlight. Gone are the shadows of materialism which economics has been bound. His four major points – Wealth is knowledge, Growth is learning, Information is surprise, Money is time – gives a framework for understanding the way the world works. To quote: “Economic science ceases to be the dismal study of scarcity and becomes the facilitator of abundance to the extent it shows us how to accelerate learning in time”. This book gives us a new map that leads into an abundant future.

GILDER DOES IT AGAIN
This book carries forward some "out of the box" economics perspectives with which Gilder readers will be familiar from earlier works. This work is challenging--even difficult at times. But it's also inspiring and illuminating. Most people who think seriously about current affairs realize that many of our conventional theories of economics as well as other social realms... are being turned on their heads by recent developments. We have to rethink a lot of what we thought we knew. Gilder gives us a framework in which to do that. I'm not sure exactly how to get from here to where we know (with his help) we have to go, but I know we have to get there. The global economy is structurally unsound and could bring everything crashing down within a few years or even months. The hypertrophy of unproductive financialization of everything.... the endless flux of currency manipulation.... MUST be dealt with, and soon.

Another brilliant work by George Gilder
There is a lot of reasons to buy a book. A novel for the beach or a book on gardening or to fix your car or love life but if you want to learn about economics George Gilder is your go to guy. You may think you know everything about capitalism by living in a capitalist country or even owning a business let me assure you ‘Life after Capitalism’ will open your eyes. George Gilder offers a truly unique perspective as to what makes a capitalist country work and prosper.

Disappointing
Gilder's key truths are "Wealth is Knowledge, Growth is Learning, Information is Surprise, and Money is Time" ...head scratching abstract tautologies that are as informative as "the sky is blue". He uses a study by Tupy and Pooley that asserts increasing resource abundance, to conclude that "population growth is not unsustainable, climate change is not wreaking havoc around the globe... and sustainability is unsustainable". That "If the US does not halt world trade growth with war or protectionism, or otherwise choke progress with high tax rates or overregulate its tech sector, the debt overhang is manageable." What planet is Gilder living on? It's basically a screed against the progressive approach to our world. There are some numbers and a few economic charts in the book, but I found the analysis very thin, depending on Tupy and Pooley's study, heady and abstract. Nothing in the Index about "Income Inequality", and only four brief mentions of "climate change". A chapter on "Bitcoin Capitalism" implies [Bitcoin] "will provide a measuring stick for the world economy and the global network." Has he heard of Sam Bankman-Fried?Dis
