Are you having trouble getting back to normal after a frightening experience? Do you feel stuck second-guessing what you did or did not do in the moment? Do you find yourself avoiding places, people, or sensations that remind you of what happened? Problems like these may be symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The good news is that recovery is possible. This is the first self-help workbook based on cognitive processing therapy (CPT), one of the gold-standard treatments for PTSD. Leading authorities--including the originator of CPT--have created a complete program featuring step-by-step exercises, practical tools that you can download and print as needed, and empathic stories of people working toward recovery. Using CPT techniques to systematically reexamine unhelpful thoughts can make the memories less painful and overwhelming. It can help you strengthen your relationships and restore a sense of safety and trust. Learn how to get unstuck from what happened in the past--so you can build the life you want now. Winner (Second Place)-- American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Award, Consumer Health Category Mental health professionals, see also Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD, Second Edition , by Patricia A. Resick, Candice M. Monson, and Kathleen M. Chard, the authoritative CPT treatment manual for clinicians. Review: good info. lots of worksheets - very helpful. full of exercises. I am using it alongside the counseling for PTSD Review: Cured my PTSD - This book cured my PTSD. No joke. I have been in therapy for years and nothing worked. I heard about CPT at a trauma conversation (I know, ironic) for work and was intrigued that it could help recover memories. I had suffered significant memory loss from my PTSD. With the assistance of this book, I regained all of my memories and I live a peaceful life.

Item is great help! Packaging not so much
Workbook is very helpful. Definitely 5 stars. Review loses one star because Amazon doesn't know how pack items anymore. Stop damaging stuff! Please don't jam books into boxes that are a size too small.

Helped me work through my trauma
This book helped me so much. It took me step by step through my trauma and helped me see that it wasn't my fault. That was huge for me to realize. I also saw that so many of the things I try to do to stay safe and in control don't really help me. This book has already made a big difference in my life.

Great CPT resource!!
This tends to work at the cognitive level rather than a ton of deep emotional expression. It’s designed as a self help book but I still think it’s way better with a therapist. It’s great for clinicians learning CPT too.
