My wife has Alzheimer’s and I have to control the environment. I have a full stairway to second floor we don’t use and needed to block access for fall reasons. I bought the 28” black metal gate and installed over bottom step. It is a very durable well made gate that takes some effort to open and prevents her from accessing the stairs. Instructions were excellent. Does take some basic tools and little bit of of mechanical ability as is screwed in place but is very secure and much better than compression type gates

We bought two of these, one for the kitchen and one for our bedroom. Because our house was built in the late 1800s, the doorways, while charming, are a long way from plumb. But, thankfully, my husband has woodworking skills and tools, and we were able to install them both with a little effort. Obviously, they work better when they're level, so, we made sure of that. I couldn't be more pleased. We have five dogs and keeping them out of the kitchen while I'm cooking and in the bedroom at night (so the heat can be evenly distributed with the door open and our room isn't stuffy at night - also keeps them from roaming the house) has been a BLESSING.Because we were installing into wood, we didn't have any problems that those with drywall have expressed. I would recommend the gate to anyone who needs to control access in or out of certain areas.

I was hoping to install and push the button and swing the gate open and close.... It's not quite like that. You have to lift after button pushing, but even that is confusing after putting the gate support brackets back on. No where in the instruction booklet nor numerous videos explain this. I just happen to watch a guy's video where he lifts the gate to open and close.... Installation is easy. Gate and parts are awesome. It's a very nice gate. I eliminated the lift by attaching the gate "barely" to click close with the bottom not engaging at all. It works very well it looks good it is what it is. If using for safety, definitely install as directed. Good Luck

I bought 2 of these gates and we are satisfied with the strength and function. The instructions could be a bit more clear and I see why some reviews point that out, but Im reviewing the gates and not the instructions. I was able to install the 2nd gate faster as a result of learning from the 1st. The weakness very well could be the locking mechanism but once everyone using them learns how to properly operate them this could help. I really like the way it stays open when you want it open and it has a self closing feature that works well if you are able to install gate plumb and level. I've dealt with a lot of baby gates through the years and some are a pain to operate especially when you're not familiar with that particular gate. I am a proponent of teaching our babies to stay off the gate as a no-no and if using a lot of baby force it could fail. But as far as design, build quality, along with ease of use the Babeloi products are great

I selected this product because it doesn’t have the bottom bar which is a tripping hazard. It seems well made and the white color blends nicely with my stairway railings, which are painted white. It does take some time to install. If either wall or railing isn’t level, the gate won’t close properly without making several adjustments. I’ve seen several customer complaints about gate not locking securely, likely because of this issue. There are small spacers that are included that help with that problem. I’ve now installed three of these at the top of my stairs.

This gate is great, BUT the hardware that comes with it sucks. I am an experienced general contractor and mechanically inclined. If you have to install this in an opening that is not perfectly plumb on both sides it is hard to adjust to create a good latch. It come with platic "shim" washers for this purpose but because of the surface area, if said shim washers are installed in drywall, the drywall will fail and crush in short order. To summarize, if you are not installing this in a wood door opening or directly onto a stud, you will have to toggle bolt a wood backer on your wall and attach the gate to that if you want it to last longer than a few weeks. Also, keep the intructions and template for when it does fail, it is a lot more difficult to install without the template.

This gate is sturdy and was easy to install. Works really well at the top of stairs. I would recommend it to anyone with toddlers that are taller or stronger than tots their age.

I bought two of these, one for the top of the stairs and one for the bottom, and now that they’re in they’re absolutely fantastic. However, installing was no joke. First off, even though they send screw anchors to go into drywall, do not attempt this, it is not strong enough to actually hold the baby gate up. This MUST go into a stud. Secondly, the top wall connector that is physically attached to the gate is incredibly difficult to screw in. The top screw position is awkward to get to, especially since you really need to be using a drill if you’re screwing into a stud. I nearly stripped the screw in the process. Also they sent two different sets of screws with no comment on which should be used.Once it’s installed though it’s perfect. Easy to open and shut, and super secure. Despite the struggle I’m very pleased with this product.

Arrived quickly, easy setup and adjustment. Seems stable and sturdy. Auto close feature is not the greatest but should be closed by supervising adults anyway. When not in use it stays open, good value for the money

After our big 'ol Boxer-mix took a tumble down the carpeted stairs, we knew we had to prevent him from free access to the stairs when we are not watching him (he has some arthritis in his legs that doesn't help him with stairs).The first gates we bought were white plastic (garbage). He pushed through the first white plastic gate in a record 3 minutes!! We were able to return those useless gates to Amazon for a full refund.Then, I spotted this gate. Love the useful video that you can watch before making the decision to purchase it. We bought 3. The metal is strong and also attractive. Our house is 125 years old (so, doubt there is a straight line / wall to be had) - and my son was able to get all 3 installed securely. On 2 of them, we had to forego the bottom latch - but no problem - since the top latch is solid and really clinches the trick. So easy to open and close. One is installed outside on the back deck above the stairs. Not sure how it will do outside in our Canadian winters. However, I am sure it will be fine with a little WD40, etc - if any of the outdoor element issues arise.Our pup is 100 lbs of pure love!! These gates stop our boy - plus look great (smart at the same time).

Build quality is great, but the functionality for closing is horrible and unsafe for use with kids. This gate should not be used for top of stairs without an additional security point added.I added another anchor to the wall and used a carabiner as second point of security because the gate lock is definitely not reliable. Please be very careful if used with small children.Very dissatisfied with this purchase because this is not a budget gate. Its pricey and does the solve the primary problem

I purchased 3 of these gates to prevent my puppy from going upstairs, downstairs and into my kitchen . It was easy to install in the doorway where I had a wall on either side. It required a bit more planning installing it at the top of staircase because I didn’t want to drill into my decorative wood staircase post . I ended up using double sided foam tape( not included in kit) to try to hold up the locking latch. These were installed in main paths in our house and are used frequently. Everything has held up until now except one bottom latch but the gate is still serving its purpose. This is an issue only because I don’t want to drill into my decorative wood post, it’s not the fault of the product. I still love the gate because it is sturdy , looks good and easy to operate with one hand only. I just wish the kit included the double sided tape and that the back of the latch was wider to offer better sticking/gripping surface for the foam tape.
