Yes, the fabric is thin . I have one and am enjoy using it. It does a great job blocking the sun.

The tags in the hat are all written only in proper English. No tag or clue on origin. Check the hat ad again for more information.

The ponytail opening can not be closed. The opening is close to the band of the hat, right above the flap that covers the neck. It's possible that some sun could hit the scalp through this opening. The hat also has a small circumference which can be adjusted to be even smaller. It is designed for people with small heads. I have an average size head and it is too tight for me.
