and who better to do this than Darcy
I really am enjoying this DVD. Having been a Davina devotee for years, I thought I would order this for something completely different. It is split into short dance routines of different styles, and who better to do this than Darcy! As it is dance you need to do moves with feet and arms, so a fair bit of coordination is required, having done it through 3 times I have a long way to go on some of sections, and so am just concentrating on the steps if I get a bit lost! To do it like the professionals, yes you have to be fit to keep up, and certainly the little intonations on hands and feet really show how great dancers differ to the rest of us! It cleverly gives you 2 options to either play through with a quick run through of the steps, a must at first, or just to play through without instruction once you are more familiar. There are a few different levels within each routine, but because they are short then I can understand why complete beginners are feeling this is not for them, as it does speed up quite quickly. I think the point is though that as long as you keep moving you will gradually see improvements with your fitness and ability. Darcy has been doing this for years so we cannot expect to be as proficient after only a few run throughs, and if your expectations are not too high, I don't think it will disappoint. I did find that a few steps were a bit hard with trainers on carpet, due to friction, but that may be because I am just being a bit careful not twisting to much on my knees in my fifties!! I would have liked the routines to be a little longer, as you just get to grips with the steps and then it is finished. It certainly gets your heart rate up and your step count! I think that this would also be a great DVD to do with small grandchildren, a great way for them to understand different dances from various countries and also get everyone moving, or older children who are interested in dance, as the basic steps will come into most choreography, and who better to learn from than Darcy Bussell.

Give it a try!
I have enjoyed using this dvd, but unfortunately I've got a poorly foot at the moment(nothing to do with the dvd), so not using is presently. I will get back to it as soon as my foot is better. Its a bit fast for beginners really, but I just think some exercise is better thsan none, so just go at my own pace and catch up eventually. It is certainly worth the money, because you do feel much more alert when using it x

brilliant, fun workout!
I ordered this as I want to keep fit indoors when the weather is awful. It is fantastic! Darcey explains each of the steps clearly, then you have a go. As each dance is only 2 and a half minutes, although the moves are energetic and it is tiring, you get a chance to rest. I like the fact that each dance is listed separately, as I like to do half an hour, so can pick where I start. The whole thing is 74 minutes (including intro). You can also choose whether to have the version with dance steps explained, or not. At them moment I am using it with instruction, but once I have learned the steps it means you don't have to go through that each time. There are such a lot of fun moves, and Darcey is enthusiastic and charming. I found it a lot more enjoyable than a lot of the more serious exercise DVDs that I have. The only single thing I didn't like is that in the very first bit of the warm up the dancers bend so low down the ground I thought 'If I do that I will never get up again!' The rest of the DVD does not expect such feats! Very good value and well worth buying.

A review from some who regularly does exercise DVDs but isn't super fit or co-ordinated
I'm not a dancer, I've never done DDMIX and I whilst I regularly do fitness DVDs, I wouldn't say I'm super-fit. If a DVD offers three levels I'd say I'm an intermediate... I bought this DVD as I fancied a change and thought it would be something my daughter would like to join in with, as she like joining me occassionally. This DVD offers two levels - super fit and ultra fit, I really struggled with my co-ordination, and whilst I just worked at a lower level, I found my lower level was tailing downwards as the DVD went on, as there wasn't a bench mark being shown and I struggled to keep up with the moves. I do like that she illustrates the steps before you begin, but often in the dance you might do the step once then change onto the next step, so you are felt feeling unco-ordinated. If you watch the trailer for the DVD, I think the dancing shown is slowed down as the DVD is VERY fast paced. I like that dances are hard work, but not too long, you can recover as you practise the next dance steps. I'm not sure my daughter would be able to keep up either. I'll keep going, and hopefully with a bit more practise I'll pick up the moves, but unfortunately I don't think DDMIX is for me.

Would recommend, just not in one go on first time
Did enjoy, although about ¾ of the way through wondered how much longer! Think this maybe because I was sweating buckets and was nearly ready to drop. My own fault though as I did decide to do the full workout to start with so with hindsight maybe I should have broken myself in gently doing half at a time. Have now decided that my coordination is worse than I thought and I’m not as fit as I believed I was! However, Darcy’s narrative was very informative and easy to follow. I’m no dancer but I enjoyed learning the basic moves. Made me feel like, with practice, I could actually do these dances, although not with Darcy’s grace and finesse. Only done once so far but will try again, just in shorter bursts next time. Would recommend.

A feel-good workout!
What great fun I’ve just had! There’s something about dancing that just makes you feel good and this DVD certainly gave me a feel-good workout. I’ve been a wannabe Irish dancer for many years so really enjoyed that particular dance but all of the dances are great fun. I have done dance before so didn’t find the steps too hard to pick up. My advice is, if you are finding the steps hard, don’t give up - keep practising each one and you will pick it up. Even dancers have to practice!
