This bin usually impresses visitors to my home. However it is not easy to keep clean. If theres a hole in the bin bag and liquid leaks into the bin it gets into the plastic bottom, and once there it can't be removed without unscreewing the ten screws at the bottom of the bin which are not robust so it shouldn't be done frequently and mine are already rusty. If you don't remove the bottom to clean out the liquid that has leaked into the plastic bottom the bin will smell and worse maggots start crawling out from the bottom, however much you keep it clean and dry.I have had the bin for 1 year and 9 months and already one of the two hinges to the bin's lid is broken. It still works with one hinge but I wonder how long it will hold for. I sent an email to Smart Innovations who have referred me to Nastech Autobin on their website under warranty to replace your lid is free but it will cost me £19.95 for admin and P&P. I have read other reviews of owners who have been happy with the bin for years but I can only assume those owners rarely use their bins. But if your kicthen is as busy as mine with regular cooking then keeping it clean is going to be a hassle. If it doesn't last for another two years then I will be opting for a cheaper bin. But for now as if I've not spent enough am going to fork out £20 to replace the lid. I will update further with my experience. I hope this has helped you make up your mind.

Ok I am a gadget man but this is also great from a hygienic perspective. No messy hands touching the bin to open it. It is a great size, the mechanism is nice (fast open, slow close) and is not too hard on batteries. I have used 6 (it takes 3 big ones) in about 6 months and I have 3 kids so it is a busy bin. BTW my kids love it!Recently it stopped working (I bought it in July'12) so I contacted the seller to ask if there was a warranty. To my complete surprise without any quibble the seller immediately sent me a replacement. How about that for customer service? You get what you pay for in this life!So if you are in the market for a cool auto opening bin sold by a reputable company then look no further :-)

Fantastic - best gadget in the kitchen. Endles houirs of fun opening the lid (sad I know. It works, hold more than enough rubbish so you aren't forever having to empty it, looks good. What more do you need.May be expensive but quality is good and so far it hasn't broken - would recommend it

A very high quality product, benefits are that the bin liner is completely hidden and it has buttons for opening it manually if you need to keep it open longer than the six seconds or so that the automatic operation uses. It's stainless steel construction will compliment any kitchen.

Good quality but having a sensor is not as good as it might seem - it opens every time you go near it! Does not like water on the lid, it stops the sensor working until it's dry. Would not buy again because of the sensor irritation!

This bin is exellent but dont put it anywhere that you pass frequently as the lid will develop a life of its own and attempt to devour you or any loose items of clothing as you go!Good capacity works well otherwise.

all round great product reliable and dependable and so far so good very pleased we bought it which these days is a rare result - more like these please...

Decided to treat myself to a new bin and after trawling through all the bin specs i chose this one, brilliant idea if you hate touching your bin lid or hate it looking dirty all the time i love it! only down side is my dog has worked it out too but you can switch it off at the back when you go out etc.
