No, for safety's sake, it is not recommended that you heat the object in a plastic bag in the microwave.

Hoping to use these as gentle restrainers for rats. Are the bags thick enough that they won't burst from the rat trying to get out?

Not sure what you mean by a "gentle restrainer", but they are hardy enough to squeeze fairly thick icing through a small opening. If it is a "momentary" restraint, probably. If you intend to hold them for any length of time, no. The bags are about the strength of, say, a large freezer zip to bag.

Big and sturdy

Big and sturdy piping bags, but not clear. So if you need 100% clear, see thru bags, this is not the item for you. The have a texture to them. Like a waffle structure. But they are nice to work with, and I have had no leakage or other issues. The are very sturdy and easy to use. They do have sort of a different shape than normal piping bags, but it has not been an issue for me.

Great Bags they don't burst abd arexeasy to hold without slipping out of your hand. I use thus Suze to put a,smaller size inside.

Nice Large, sturdy bags

I have used these for piping macarons. I have been able to reuse the bags mult times without bursting. Washes easily and love the size and thickness of the bags.

Nice to have as a backup

Good to have as a backup. As a professional these bags are pretty weak and blow easily. I pipe with buttercream frosting and the piping tip likes to blow out the end. I found double bagging works but I’ve used better
