Havoc [DVD]

Surprised this didn't get a better rating as it was a realistic take on rich kids trying to spice up their bored lives, plus the way rules can be bent to protect the privileged. Thought the whole cast was good, particularly Anne Hathaway who must have been only just out of her teens herself at the time

This is a film you worry about before viewing. A mainstream film about rich kids slumming it. Not the type of thing that tends to work out too well and as I really knew little about 'Havoc' before watching I did wonder. yet, I was engrossed once my initial presumptions were forgotten.Freddy Roderiquez who it took me half the film to place as the guy from 'Six Foot Under' is exceptional as the main bad guy of the story who you don't particularly hate as his performance and the telling of the story are subtlety real that you don't necessarily blame him for his predicament. Mike Vogel and Bijou Phillips are almost equally impressive. Yet, obviously, this is Anne Hathaway's film. She probably appears in 95% of the 85 minutes screen time and is enticing, engrossing and hypnotic in every scene. Until 'Love and Other Drugs' I had never really noticed her before but in both these films and I now realise also in 'Batman Returns' she just captivates and dominates whilst being also able to be real and not overbearing. It makes for a very watchable but also provocative and intelligent film about it's characters.I have just two problems with Hathaway and this film. First I think despite the actresses talents she does on occasion during Havoc appear a little old to be playing a teenager but that is less important given the quality of the performance.The second problem is the use of the camcorder school journalist used to fill in apsects of the story. At one point I thought the character would play a part in a subplot but instead he is joust used as a story device and therefore seems a little clunky and in the way. I'm sure there must have been a better way of suggesting Alison's internal loneliness.But, don't let those aspects bother you watch a film that provokes and entertains.

Not her best film - prefer her with her clothes on. shame she has sunk to this kind of film, she is a lovely actress

Shows the consequences of the rich white kids thinking they are black

I am sure there are worse films but I didn't make the mistake of buying them.

Despite the fact that this movie does portray some real issues, it severely downplays the impact of rape and drug abuse, as if these things are not happening in situations where it is indisputable, particularly in the case of rape, and its consequences. This sets a terrible example for anyone watching and is not acceptable for any viewers.

This movie is very good

Anne Hathaway is superb in the film and not giving away any spoilers buy it.
