Optimus F-0645A 6-Inch 2-Speed Convertible Personal Clip-On/Table Fan, White

Like other reviewers, I had a problem with the switch. Upon removing the fan from the box, I immediately saw a hole on the back of the fan where the low/off/high switch was supposed to be. Having read the other reviews here, I didn't panic. It is easily fixed. Here's what I did and what you can do to fix it:PLEASE PHYSICALLY VERIFY that the fan's electrical cord is not plugged in! Failure to do so could result in electrocution and possibly your death! (Don't freak. Once you've made sure the fan is unplugged, fixing the switch problem is very safe.)Remove the one phillips head (notch type) screw on the back of the fan. Pop open the back cover (pull the top up first as there is a little notch that holds it in on the bottom of the cover.)If you examine the inside of the back cover, you will see two small plastic tabs. The switch rests in here. Take the switch and line it up with the hole in the back cover. It's difficult to tell if the switch is upside down or not (Off is when the switch is in the middle. Low and High speed are to the sides, but which way is high and which way is low?). If you don't get it right on the first try, you can easily change it later, if you need to. If any of the wires on the switch have fallen off or are not securely attached to the switch, put the cover back on and return the fan -- just to be safe.Push the switch so that the button goes through the hole and the switch snaps into place. Be careful to not put too much pressure so you don't break the tabs that hold the switch in place. Put the cover (that is now properly holding the switch) back on by putting the notch on bottom of the cover in it's little hole first then slide in the top part of the cover. Screw the screw back in. Make the screw snug, but don't over-tighten it.Plug the fan in and try it. Does the fan speed match what is stamped on the plastic cover? (When you slide the switch to low, is the fan on low speed?) If not, UNPLUG THE FAN and open it back up and flip the switch over. (Again, take care to not break the tabs that hold the switch in place. If a tab breaks, return the fan. You don't want the switch to fall in and freely move around inside the fan.)You might have noticed, while you were inside the fan, the motor. there's like a little bridge with a little circle in it. (This is the armature.) I have owned another of this same fan for quite some time. Every so often, the fan acts like it is struggling to start when I turn it on or drags while running. I run my fan 8+ hours a day. Eventually, the motor needs to be lubricated. Other than cleaning the dust off, I put a drop or two of 3-in-1 motor oil on that little circle on the bridge (The inside of this circle is what spins). The fan then spins freely again. You don't need to worry about this now. It's for later. Doing this part can make this low cost little fan last a very long time!The fan itself is wonderful. I clip it onto the headboard of my bed and point the fan at my head. I put the fan on low and let it run all night. It keeps me nice and cool and is very, very quiet! At work, instead of using the stand to stand it on my desk, I also use the clip to clip it to the side of my desk. (It saves me some desktop space.) The clip holds the fan in place very well. The head of the fan adjusts up and down. You can also pivot the head so you can direct the air anywhere you'd like. I point the fan more towards the surface of the desk. This puts air to my body, but doesn't dry out my eyes.Oh, in case you're wondering, switching out the clip for the desktop stand and vice-versa is a bit of a pain, but it's simple to do and is a nice feature to have.Before writing this review, I just ordered a third one of these fans to use in my computer lab, where I need a quiet little fan.The fan (according to my Kill-A-Watt) uses about 10 watts on low speed and about 12 watts on high speed. Since the switch is a mechanical switch and there is no remote control, the fan uses 0 watts when turned off. (No vampire electronics in this fan!)I would have given this 5 stars, if not for the switch issue. It is a very easy fix, but you shouldn't have to worry about it!I truly believe that just about anyone can perform this simple fix. But, if you do not feel comfortable with following the above steps, you may want to look for a different fan so you don't waste your time and money on returning the fan. I now own three of these and wouldn't hesitate to order another if I need it.***************************************************************************************************UPDATE: July 18, 2014I was just 'reviewing' my reviews and decided to give you an update. I am no longer in an office. I work at home in my home lab. I still have this fan and still use it upwards of 8+ hours a day. It's still functioning beautifully. From time-to-time, I pop the front grill off (which is very easy to do) and wash it to remove the built-up dust. I wipe the three plastic fan blades with soft cloth to clean them. For some reason the back grill doesn't really seem to ever get more than a slight layer of dust, which is easily wiped off.Aside from the switch issue -- which I've had no problems with since I first received my fans, I only have two qualms with this low-cost fan. First, the plastic clips that attach the fan to something like the side of a desk or credenza, break after a while. I don't move the fan around. It stays in the same place, day after day, yet the plastic clip will break after an indeterminate period of time. I remember walking into my office one day and wondering where my fan was. The clip had broken some time over the weekend -- when no one was there -- and the fan had fallen to the floor. It wasn't a big deal as I still had the base for the fan. I unscrewed the clip and screwed on the base. After that, the fan just sat on the desk instead of being clipped to the side of the desk. Of the three fans I have, two of the three clips have broken so far. I replaced the fan on my bed with a different brand and style, since I NEED for that one to be able to clip-on.I'm still very pleased with the one clipped to my computer desk in the lab. I have not had to lubricate this motor in a few years. I still believe a 4-star rating is good for this product. In the event that I need another clip-on fan, I will have a look around to see the current product offerings, but I will still favorably consider re-purchasing more of this one.

It’s a good little fan to keep the air circulating in tight space, the only grape I have about it is that it was a little pricey

Package arrived completely destroyed. Retail packaging. Should have been put in a box or something. Thought for sure it would have missing pieces. Everything was there. Fan was a little scratched up , but still works.Ad was a little deceiving, I thought I was buying 2 fans. Not one.Disappointing.
