LOVE this book! Get a microscope when ordering this as well! LOTS of hands on stuff.
We LOVE LOVE this book! It's quite large close to 9X11 and 1 and 1/4 inches thick. The color in this book is fantastic! There is lots of exciting information in this book. My Daughter in law said she had this book when she was in 5th grade and she loved it as well. Can't wait to get started with my 10 yr old son on this. The book is set up in 6 different units, A thru F and in each Unit there are about 2 to 4 chapters in each one. Each chapter has 3 to 4 lessons and a chapter review and test prep section at the end of each chapter. Each lesson has about 8 to 12 pages (more of them having 8). One thing to know is I would recommend getting a microscope because the book has a lot of hands on experiments to do with a microscope. We found a cheap one on Amazon for about 40 bucks which works perfect for what you need it for here. Most other things needed to do the experiments are pretty easy to get a hold of quickly. But plan your day out a few days in advance because you may have to shop for some of them...for example we needed a mealworm specimen. You cant just pull that out of a hat!

I love this BOOK!
This is an amazing science book. My daughter is learning more in this book, than my 7th grader did in 6th grade with Scott Foreman Science. In just chapter 1 alone, she has covered plants & animal cells, muscles, tissues, organs and 4 major body systems! No complaints so far.

Table of Contents
Ignore the four star rating, I haven't used the book yet. We just received it tonight and I wanted to lay out the content to help other homeschoolers see what's in it.Also, ignore the typos, it's late and my contacts feel like sandpaper. I just know that if I don't write this review right now, it will never get done. I'll update for content later. ;)BTW: Almost every chapter has three lessons and a "Chapter Review/Test Prep" section included as well.Unit A: Life Science: Processes of Living ThingsChapter 1) From Single Cells to Body SystemsChapter 2) Animal Growth and ReproductionChapter 3) Types of Plants and Their AdaptationsChapter 4) Plant ProcessesUnit B: Life Science: Systems and Interactions in Nature1) Cycles in Nature2) Living Things Interact3) Biomes4) Protecting and Preserving EcosystemsUnit C: Earth Science: Processes that Change the Earth1) Changes to Earth’s Surface2) Renewable and Nonrenewable Resources3) Weather and Climate4) Exploring the OceansUnit D: Earth Science: The Solar System and Beyond1) Earth, Moon, and Beyond2) The Sun and Other StarsUnit E: Physical Science: Building Blocks of Matter1) Matter and its Properties2) Atoms and ElementsUnit F: Physical Science: Energy and Motion1) Forces2) Motion3) Forms of Energy4) How People Use Energy

I really like this book
I really like this book. I plan on using it over the summer to educate my kids in science. Our school system has cut science down to learning on discovery education online. I'm not thrilled with what I have seen that my kids are learning. As I love science, I know this book will help me break down concepts in to language that they can understand.

Reliable science text to buy used for homeschool
I would buy this text again. It includes many key science terms that will be needed to pass the STAAR science test in fifth grade. I used it in a homeschool setting and was happy with it. It was a bit dry at times and sometimes didn't use the best examples to demonstrate concepts like motion and force.
