Q: Can adhesive tape be used on it

I would definitely not recommend using adhesive strips. These shelves are heavy, the fixings supplied are more than adequate for anchoring securely to a solid wall.

Not sure but weight limit should be in the product description -sky box will be fine i think

It would have to be at least 2 ft above of the heat as it may affect your products on the shelf. The glass will draw in heat due to it being black glass.

Q: does this come in 2 parts, could I use the glass shelf without the wall bracket (i.e. I will use the glass shelf as a computer monitor riser)?

Probably... the shelf has a sleeve fitting along the back that engages with the triangular bracket - this from memory, it's not hugely obtrusive. I can't send a pic as it is not visible from the shelf end.
