I don't know what they are called, but are those rounded pieces on the upper inside part of the legs on both sides? Are they required or removable?

Everything was very required. This desk is not super stable with everything attached.

Can you put casters on this

The casters with a flat metal frame that allows them to be used with another object might work on these tables but I'm not 100% sure. Someone could weld it on the legs if need be.

I am sorry it did not come with instructions. I finally had to hire someone to do it for me.

Can this desk be painted?

I wouldn't recommend painting this desk.
