“Only someone like Jeffrey Archer … could have written a compelling story like this. Every page bristles with suspense and the ending comes at you with the force of a tank round”― DAVID BALDACCI THE UNPUTDOWNABLE THRILLER FROM THE MASTER STORYTELLER London, 1988. Royal fever sweeps the nation as Britain falls in love with the ‘people’s princess’. Which means for Scotland Yard, the focus is on the elite Royalty Protection Command, and its commanding officer. Entrusted with protecting the most famous family on earth, they quite simply have to be the best. A weak link could spell disaster. Detective Chief Inspector William Warwick and his Scotland Yard squad are sent in to investigate the team. Maverick ex-undercover operative Ross Hogan is charged with a very sensitive―and unique―responsibility. But it soon becomes clear the problems in Royalty Protection are just the beginning. A renegade organization has the security of the country―and the Crown―in its sights. The only question is which target is next in line… Review: another fantastic read - Jeffrey Archer draws the reader into the story and in a few pages you forget that you are reading a fictional account and totally immerse yourself in to an incredible story that is embellished with so much realism, detail and believable action that it is quite impassable to put the book down until the final word is read Review: Good Read - Interesting characters and we'll written plot. The book was just fun with no stop in the action. Guns are fired and chases abound on land and sea. Tighten your seatbelts!

Nix My Nails
Once again, Jeffrey Archer has created a nail biter of an adventure wrapped around the lives of our favorite characters and criminals. I tell you what I love about his series, I get to visit my pals from previous books and find out what’s new with them as they evolve while being introduced to a host of fresh characters. Some series become stale and monotonous over time but I’m so thrilled and thankful J. Archer has given us another brilliant and fresh adventure.

Light entertainment
Jeffrey Archer’s “Next in Line” is a two-plot story set in London in 1988. It is the fifth novel in his “William Warrick” series. One plot involves corruption among the Metropolitan Police officers assigned to protect the Royal Family and features Diana, Princess of Wales as a character. The second plot is apparently the continuation of a storyline from a previous novel (or novels) in the series. It involves the world of fine art (galleries, museums, art fraud and theft, etc.) Those who’ve not read the previous work(s), like me, may find themselves at something of a disadvantage. The author does not expend much ink telling readers what has gone before. Nevertheless, “Next in Line,” is classic “Jeffrey Archer” with all the earmarks of his oeuvre: clear prose, brisk pacing, more emphasis on plot than character, tongue-in-cheek wit, some commentary on current issues and events, and lots of dangling baited hooks and cliffhanger chapter endings to keep readers turning the pages. All in all, a “light entertainment” that fans of Baron Archer may well enjoy.

Choppy
This story is choppy. Archer is more than a great writer, but this isn't his best. At times had trouble following the story. This probably was not the author's writing, but rather my short comings. Doubt I will recommend this book, and will think hard before reading of Archer's novels. A true shame.

3 stories in one
At first it was kind of slow but it turned into quite a story or stories. I have read most of Archers books and I liked them all. My favorite was and still is Kane and Abel. A book I didn’t want to end

Another winner in the William Warwick series from the master storyteller
I loved every book in this series. I love the characters and progression of their lives from book to book. This book had a little more violence, was a little more cutting and a little more tension than the previous four, which were more tongue in cheek but still a wonderful read. Looking forward to Book 6 in September 2023!

Thrilling and Engaging
"Next in Line" is the fifth book in Jeffrey Archer's William Warwick series and it is every bit as thrilling and engaging as the previous installments. The novel follows William Warwick, a detective in the Metropolitan Police Force, as he investigates a high-profile art theft. As with all of Archer's books, the writing in "Next in Line" is crisp, clear, and engaging. The plot is expertly crafted, with twists and turns that keep the reader guessing until the very end. What I particularly appreciated about this book is the way that Archer weaves in elements of art history, making it a fascinating read for anyone interested in the subject. William Warwick is a compelling protagonist, and it's been a pleasure to watch his character develop over the course of the series. He's a detective who is passionate about justice, but also flawed and relatable. The supporting cast of characters is equally well-drawn, with each one bringing something unique and interesting to the story. Overall, "Next in Line" is a fantastic addition to the William Warwick series, and one that is sure to delight fans of Jeffrey Archer's work. With its intricate plot, well-developed characters, and engaging writing, this book is a must-read for anyone who loves a good thriller and I highly recommend it and can’t wait for the 6th book.
