customs duties prohibitive
The item arrived safe and sound, but with one week's delay, thanks to the EU customs. There was a hefty surcharge, so on top of paying 20% VAT at source (£4.34), I was charged another €13.51 VAT upon entry into the EU, plus €15.00 "customs formalities". It is becoming virtually impossible to buy things in the UK.
