The entire Coast to Coast route map in a convenient pocket-sized book
The AZ adventure maps have the advantage over a full sheet Ordnance Survey map in that they can be kept to a manageable size while in use in the field. Pages are simply turned over rather than having to unfold and refold a large map. The slight disadvantage of course is that it’s impossible to see more than a few miles from your current location. This AZ book covers the entire Coast to Coast route from St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay, which would otherwise require 9 separate OS Explorer maps. The book measures 13cm x 24cm, the same size as an OS map, and when opened the double page will show an area of 3.75 x 3.5 miles (6.5 x 6km). This 1:25000 scale is identical to the OS Explorer series and all map symbols are OS standard, with a comprehensive guide to these at the front of the book. Also at the front is an overall view of the total area covered by the book, with a grid showing page numbers for each area so it’s quick to get to the relevant page.At the back is an index of places names with page number, grid reference number and also the Ordnance Survey National map reference number. This latter is useful for locating a specific area of the map on a full sized OS fold out map.The pages are not waterproof so it’s worth buying the custom fit weatherproof case available from the AZ website. This case is a snug fit, only slightly larger than the book itself, and opens up to show the full two pages under the plastic cover. The book stays closed with a small Velcro tab and will fit in a standard map pocket of a jacket or trousers. For convenience, and with its identical map format to the OS Explorer series, this is a great companion to the many Coast to Coast guide books.

brilliant
Really useful. Everyone on the C2C seemed to have one. Don't bother taking a guide book if you are doing ultra-lightweight backpacking on the C2C - just take this instead and a compass (and some form of GPS would be advisable too - for most of us, that's our mobile phone).I've just completed the C2C and found this book invaluable. It means you don't need about 9 OS maps. Furthermore, there is sufficient detail "off trail" to get you back on track if you want to explore off-trail for a bit. Or if you want to try any of the alternative routes (of which there are quite a few). This book has all of the alternatives. It has distances and other information too.Combined with my mobile phone on energy-saving and "airplane mode" (so it is only acting as a GPS receiver and not "hunting" as a transmitter all the time) I found that navigation with the OS Mapping app was really easy and battery life was very good. I DID take a Garmin eTrex10, but didn't use it as this book (plus compass) and the OS Mapping app were far better. Def BUY IT!!!

Only resource you need apart from Compeed.
Got us from St Bees to Robin Hoods bay without compasses or GPS.I can assure you that a waterproof cover for this is also essential as the Dales and Moors absolutely destroyed two of our copies in downpours. If you are thinking about doing this walk go for it. Highlight being the scenery and also eating whatever you want to the time you’re doing it.Be prepared to gain leg muscle but also go a bit mad with the people you’re with. Compeed and Ibruprofen for the last few days and you’ll be fine in a week!P.s. To Glen (Australian walker) and Catherine to who walked it alone who we met on our trip - hope you made it there safely and had a great time!

A really good map book
I bought this for my C2C in May 2019. A really easy map to read, especially if you are used to using a "normal OS map. The route is highlighted in yellow, with the different high/low routes over the Lake District and moors. Very easy to follow and it became my constant companion. The only downside is it isn't waterproof and you will need a suitable map case. Some really good info on mileages and such at the back, which I only discovered 4 days in! Don't leave home without it!

My best buy for my Coast to Coast
This was by far my best buy for my coast to coast walk and i couldn't recommend this enough. It's not a guide book but a quality OS map where you simply flip the page to the next stage meaning no hunting around in the fog! The route is marked so it's easy to follow and it shows enough surrounding area incase you go off path. If you use this in conjunction with a guide book you will not go wrong. We did the C2C in February so I needed something that I could use quickly to save time. Fits perfectly in a map holder too. It was a bit dog eared by the end of it but that probably just showed how much i used it.Just a note - you will definitely need a waterproof map holder for this as it will suffer if it gets too wet. Oh and don't forget the compeed!

Spot on
Using this alongside the Alfred Wainwright guide to the walk and both are great companions. It saves space and easy to use.

good package but the print is far too small
The atlas is a good value package. If you are sitting at home or office in good light then it is easy to use. My problem is that the OS 25000 scale names on the map are so small as to make them difficult to read. Also I would have thought that the route of the Coast to Coast would have better highlighting but it almost merges into the background map. Out on the C2C in variable weather I would find this size mapping difficult to read requiring longer stops to work out where I was. Better highlighting of the C2C route would help. Overall the atlas is a good resource for planning the C2C but once out hiking the route I would like maps that focused on the C2C route rather than the general mapping approach of the OS 25k mapping.

Used successfully for the c2c
I used this for the entire c2c in June/July 2019 and it got me from point to point, so I can’t complain really. It uses standard os maps so it doesn’t miss much. It also has handy pages at the back which show distances of all the settlements/landmarks on the route, and it shows where there are campsites, pubs etc.
