Lodge Wildlife Series-8" Cast Iron Skillet with Duck Scene, 8", Black

Cast iron pans are one of those things that people either love or hate; I’ve never heard anyone say they ‘sort of like’ cooking with cast iron. Much of the dislike comes from not knowing how to care for cast iron, and the expectation that it will be like cooking with Teflon. Cast iron does take a bit of extra tlc, especially when it’s new, but it will last a lifetime(and beyond) if treated properly. The most important aspect of caring for cast iron is to dry it completely after use; if it is left soaking in water or put away wet, it will rust. There is no cookware that is more versatile; the sky’s the limit when it comes to its uses. It can withstand extreme temperatures, so it’s great to bake in. Any concern about a potentially dangerous coating that will flake off of a pan into food is non-existent. Cast iron holds heat longer, and heats more evenly than the ‘disposable’ non-stick pans that tend to develop hot spots(then wind up in a landfill). Once it has a proper seasoning on it, very few types of food will stick to a cast iron skillet. And if a mallet is needed for pounding a chicken breast thin for cutlets or parmigiana, look no further than an 8” cast iron skillet. The wildlife series meets Lodge’s high standard of quality, with the added bonus of being works of art; each size skillet showcases a different animal. The 8” skillet features a duck, and it’s really beautifully done. It’s too nice to stick in a cupboard; hung on a wall, it would be an attractive addition to any kitchen. This skillet is the perfect size for frying two eggs, cooking a single burger or grilled cheese sandwich, making a small pan pizza, sautéing veggies, or baking a big cookie. It is well worth the price paid, and then some. Lodge is a reputable company that has been around for a very long time; I have a lot of cast iron pieces, and with the exception of one, they are all Lodge. Did I mention these last forever? Put me in the ‘love’ column.

Love it, for the price I think it's pretty good. The bottom is flat and does not rock. There are only a few minor shallow sand grain sized holes, which are just manufacturing defects and do not affect the performance.

If you need small cast iron frying pan, this is the one. Seasoned, cooks great but does require soft washing & applying oil after each use. Not hard, it makes it better!

Love this pan! I use it strictly for camping. It seasoned up very nicely. Perfect size for one or two people. It’s the only pan that I take now.

I bought this to replace a Lodge cast iron griddle I had for years. That one was very smooth straight out of the box, but it “disappeared” when we moved. I try to buy “made in the USA”, but the quality of Lodge products in the last few years has been disappointing. It is useable, but it just doesn’t have that smooth cooking surface my old one had. Seasoning it didn’t make it much better. It is just too rough of a cooking surface. One of these days, I’ll have this one sanded down. In the meantime, it just hangs as a decoration. I purchased a Comal made in Columbia (also from Amazon) which could also be smoother, but is much better than this one.

Even though I bought the wrong size, it a good skillet plan to reorder a bigger one.

Great compact size. Relatively high rims - less oil splatter on the stove. My wife was hesitant for me to buy it, but she loved it at the first sight.

If you’ve seen my review of the matching duck pan, it’s me again. It’s much easier to say “hey careful the moose pan is still hot” than it is to say “hey careful, watch out for the 10.5” griddle”. And I have them hanging up so I can look at them and pretend I am in the backcountry.

Got her this for Christmas. Wasn't sure which to buy so I opted for this one with the nice pattern/picture on the back. Obviously you don't see this whilst cooking, but whatever. She's very happy and uses it frequently. I'm perfectly content using the regular frying pan, and to me its just a pain to clean - but if you know more than me about these things, you won't be disappointed.

Du kannst damit alles machen. Zufällig passt ein Deckel bei mir genau auf die Pfanne. Also egal, ob im Ofen oder auf dem Herd. Perfekt für 1-2 Personen. Auflauf, Gratin, Kurzgebratenes, Geschmortes, sogar Kuchen habe ich schon gebacken da drin. Wenn man sie gut pflegt, legt sich bald nichts mehr dran fest. Immer schön ölen! Wir haben 2 Stück, für jeden eines. Ein weiterer Vorteil: keine gesundheitsbelastende Beschichtung. Ja, etwas mehr Arbeit, aber mehr Gesundheit!

I really like Lodge but, I was sent a vanilla pan vs the one that is shown in the pictures.
