Works great in 1/8" Aluminum
I have only tried the 1/4" bit in 1/8" aluminum. Did not use lubricant. Cut true to size and left such minute burr on both sides that I didn't feel the need to debur. Very impressive bit. I wonder if there is a thickness limitation especially with steel. One reviewer said it wasn't good for that although they didn't say what size bit they were using.

Super Clean entry and Exit edges
Just Buy one bit, drill a hole in any wood, and you will get a clean entry and exit hole. (A full set is on my Santa list.) NO TEAROUT even without a backer board. I'm a woodworker, haven't tried it on metal. Go to you tube, Izzy Swan to see a demo of these style bits. AWESOME.

So much cheaper than buying a ton of step drill bits
We use a step drill to drill out plasma cut holes in 16ga metal. We kept breaking standard 3/16" bits when trying to drill out these holes. We used a regular step drill for a while but at $30 a pop and they didn't last very long. This bit works great and lasts a long time. When it wears out the replacements are much cheaper! Will be buying other sizes as well. Really like these bits.

Junk
Had to drill through 1/4 steel and it struggled and finally stop working. I was going slow and used lubricant. It looks nice, but doesn’t work. I would get different product. Normal cobalt drill bits worked way better than this.

Well made
Excellent product, works great for wood. Can’t wait to try it on metal. A little pricey but you have to pay for quality.

Not sure why - but it works good...
I was thinking that the stepped up point on the drill would be substantially longer, long enough to be able to (easily) make holes of different sizes up to 1/4". But, at least in my experience, that's not the case. The drill works good. Harder materials, (like sheet metal) it can really, seriously grab, IMHO much worse than a regular drill, but you should be prepared for that anyway, it can happen anytime... I've not been able to controllably make smaller holes than the major drill size. So, I'm not realy sure of a real need or use for it as a drill. Maybe for holes for flat head screws,... but I've not done that. Nice size, nice length, and a nice little plastic storage case to keep it seperate from my standard drill bits. For general use, it may be a little bit of overkill, but there's nothing wrong with it, I'd get another one when this one wears out...

Cobalt! For Drilling Metal
After ruining many drill bits when drilling a hole into metal, I came to realize that I needed to use a bit designed for metal..Cobalt bits are the way to go for metal and the stepped nature of this bit makes it way quicker and more precise. What a revelation!! Amazing value!

Great Drill Bit, Love that it's Cobalt
This is a great drill bit, it is made from Cobalt which is a more durable material for drill bits and in my experience stays sharper longer. I like that the tip is spiraled, or stepped like a screw. It helps the bit get more "bite" into the material and ultimately makes it drill faster at the caveat of being able to sharpen it.
