The Whole Story

She just wasn’t my cup of tea back in the 80s. Back then I was in the U.S. Army and a complete metal head. Now that I’m older, I’m learning to appreciate more music, some of which some of my old Army buds would be surprised by. Anyway, I find Kate Bush to be quite an artist, not just musically. Some of her music videos showcase her talents and I find her to be quite unique and perhaps underrated. She’s definitely an artist in every sense and I’ve come to enjoy her music impeccably. Quite a woman and she sings from her heart. I’m a little late, but happy to have discovered her and can now appreciate her talents.

Great choice of songs. Missing Rubberband Girl, The Sensual World, Rocket's Tail. Bush is very artistic with her dance in her music videos.

Excellent CD; great way to introduce yourself to Kate or to listen to favorites across various albums.

Not really the whole story, of course. More like 'the story so far', as at the end of the first decade of her three decade career.Kate had an astonishing debut. On her first television appearance, singing Wuthering Heights, she was shaking with stage fright. Also, for the time, she cut a rather bizarre (though very attractive) figure, as she used the mime training she had received at school to perform slow, graceful movements as an accompaniment to her very novel song. She became an overnight star. She was treated seriously from the start, giving art-program interviews rather than the usual pop DJ stuff. She has remained an enigmatic and revered figure, on the fringes of the pop scene, ever since, plowing her own deep furrow.The version of Wuthering Heights on this album has a new vocal, with a cleaner, clearer sound. At the time, there was much discussion on what the song was actually about. So to that extent, this is 'the story so far, retold'.It is a story worth catching up with, because Kate is a unique and special talent, with an extraordinary vocal range. This is music to be sat and carefully listened to. The music owes more to imaginative and lush production rather than melodic strength, and the lyrics, on close inspection, are often facile and sometimes rather portentous. But the complete package is always impressive. The lyrics are available online and it increases your appreciation greatly if you have them to hand while listening. As they are all story-based, you get even more out of them if you watch the videos, but I couldn't find many of her videos on DVD. If you can find Babooshka on DVD, see it. It's wonderfully erotic.

Nice introduction to Kate Bush

Great CD. Love her voice. CD came I. Perfect condition. Would definitely order from them again.

For all the Kate Bush fans out there, the first compilation of highlights from Kate Bush's work is still one of the better ways of getting introduced to her music, even 20-plus years after its original release. Bush made a special effort on behalf of this collection -- originally an LP -- by re-recording and remixing her debut hit "Wuthering Heights"; she felt that her teenaged vocal didn't properly represent the song and, in fact, at one point thought to re-do the vocals on several other of the early numbers included. The collection is an excellent overview, presenting the many sides of her music, and bookending her whole career through 1984, from her debut to her then newest single, "Experiment IV"; nor is it confined exclusively to major hits, as important lesser-charting entries are also featured.

I had this album as a MP3 version, now have got it on CD.It's a cracking album of Kate's hits, my favourites are Wuthering Heights, WOW, Breathing, The man with the child in his eyes, Babooshka, Running up that hill and Army dreamers.
