The Victorian House Explained (England's Living History) Review: Interesting, Usable - This slim volume comes with plenty of helpful photographs and line drawings, and is a good starter book for learning about Victorian domestic architecture. It has an excellent section on bathrooms, logical given that the bathrooom as we know it was invented during the Victorian period. I would have liked more common floorplans from the era - but this IS a book aimed primarily at helping renovators identify the period of their home so they can carry out their reenovations as sympathetically as possible. Well organised into different time periods and types of rooms, plenty of good background information and a good overall look at architecture of the period. Review: A must for Victorian history lovers, DIY renovators and/or historical fiction writers - This book is a great resource for me. Trevor Yorke's books are always well researched and interesting. A must for Victorian history lovers, DIY renovators and historical fiction writers who want to imagine/capture an accurate sense of place in their stories. Highly recommended.

This book provides a lot of visual and written detail about how houses were built in the Victorian era. It is not a big book, but has lots of information, and the writing is clear and understandable. The images are fine, but all are in black and white. The page quality is fine.

Leggera lettura per chi come me è affascinato da questo stile architettonico. Piacevole e discorsivo non è troppo tecnico quindi adatto anche a chi non è del settore.

Great little book. Having just had an offer accepted on a Victorian house I spent much of Xmas devouring everything I could find on them. This was the best book I found. Others might have been larger, more comprehensive, or have bigger photos (and a bigger price to match). But this book did an excellent job of taking me through the history and structure of Victorian housing, covering all the key points in a way that was very easy to understand. Highly recommended.

Nice collection of info in one place. However if you have a keen interest in the subject there's unlikely to be anything radically new here. I'm still glad I bought it though. It's a nice book, smart snd well-written, and handy to have for reference.
