I rarely leave reviews but these speakers deserve one.First off to give a little perspective I rarely venture outside of Klipsch products. I have plenty of experience with all sorts of high end audio equipment from B&O to reference HK, NAD receivers, so on and so forth... so my amazement with these speakers is not due to never hearing any high end equipment.So why did I even take a chance with these? My little sister wanted a record player setup so I got her an Audio Technica LP60 to start her beginner setup. I wanted a pair of bookshelf speakers for a clean setup and I wanted the speakers to be powered so she didn't need to mess with an amp. That ruled out the Klipsch bookshelf speakers at this price point and unfortunately I couldn't use the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 system (best bang for my buck of all time, have had them for over 10 years now) as it has a separate sub and too many cables for it to be attractive with her setup.Aesthetically, these are knockouts considering the price point.The fit and finish is excellent, they have a healthy weight to them and no one would suspect that this isn't real wood. I personally very much like the look with the speaker grills off. It presents itself as a speaker pair only acquired with a higher budget.The important part - sound. They blew me away when I first set them up. They are bright, distortion free and have a surprising amount of bass. In fact, even though I am normally a bass fanatic these satisfy me in nearly every genre of music outside of EDM. They do run out of steam when playing Odesza for example but it is not a bad sound, the mid just starts to pull away and take over. Also, these things can get LOUD. More importantly, there is very little distortion up until max and the separation in instruments/vocals remain.I do not know how many this will help but as I am typing this review I have the speakers sitting directly beside my Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 system. It has been a gold standard for me for over a decade in terms of price vs. performance and while this is not exactly apples to apples (2.0 to 2.1) it may provide some relative insight for similarly priced often computer speaker systems. The Klipsch sounds bigger as if a wider sound stage but this may be largely due to the powered subwoofer. Obviously, the Klipsch wipes the floor in terms of bass performance because of the sub and with the horns in the speakers it does often sound a bit brighter. The Edifier however consistently sounds warmer and a bit tighter. When comparing the two systems side by side the real determining factor is how much bass you need and/or if you need a bookshelf setup as with 95% of media they both perform beautifully. It is only in the bass heavy applications the similarly priced Klipsch system pulls ahead.Additionally, the bluetooth works very well and there is very little lag or interference. The range is great, too.All in all, for a pair of speakers I would have never even considered if it weren't for this budget system I am putting together, I am incredibly impressed. So much so that I may cheat on Klipsch and purchase Edifier's higher end bookshelf system and really see what this company is capable of.

First, some quick points on design:- 10 degree angle on speakers properly point the woofer and tweeter towards your head when placed on a desk. Normally would have to put a piece of angled foam or something to achieve this, so a nice bonus.- Dials on the side are nicely constructed and placed for me, being right handed. I can see people wanting the volume knob on the front, but I mostly manage volume through the computer and leave the speaker volume static, so this was fine.- Front-facing subwoofer port is a nice design choice because if you are like me and want to place the speakers on your desk that's up against a wall, you won't have any obstruction to the airflow. Other speakers with rear-facing ports will need to be placed at least 4" away from a back wall. However, I think this limits the size of the woofer, which will have an impact on bass extension (will go into that more below).- Off/on switch is on the back of the unit, which wasn't that great. I didn't want to leave these speakers on because they would draw a bit of power, so I waste a couple seconds every time I toggle the power.- Construction quality seems to be pretty good overall. The speakers have some heft to them and are pretty solid. The wood grain veneer has texture on it so it makes it seem more real. Overall a good looking set of speakers with the grills on or off.The SOUND:Let me preface this section by saying that I considered myself an aspiring audiophile, but more on the neophyte side of the spectrum. I played string instruments throughout my life and listen to many genres of music, so I care and know a little about good sound, but I haven't gotten to the point of spending thousands on speakers and headphones. I recently bought a Samsung HW-K450 soundbar for the TV and have a pair of Shure SE215's, and for this pair of Edifiers was looking for replace an old Logitech Z3 2.1 system I bought 12 years ago. This was my first set of speakers designed for music listening, so I wanted something pretty high quality, but I didn't want to spend more than $200 because I wasn't sure how big of a difference it would have made. Overall, I was looking for something with good value.First things first, the speakers sound GREAT. Out of the box, they sounded a little hollow, but after about 12 hrs breaking in, the sound really rounded out, and the mid range and bass became a lot more full and lively. The first couple evenings with the speakers, I sat there in front of my computer with the lights off and my eyes closed, finding new sounds and details in tracks I'd heard hundreds of times before. Overall, the sound is very balanced through the mid-/high-range and sounds very natural. The silk tweeters don't distort or break down until the very highest of volumes. After doing some A/B testing with my soundbar and headphones, I came to realize how much of a difference having a dedicated tweeter makes on the sound. The percussive sounds from the R1700BT shimmer and have this ephemeral quality and made the Samsung soundbar (and even the Shure headphones) seem really dull and flat in comparison.The only negative I have about these speakers is that the bass is a little bit weak. This should be expected, as the woofer is only 4". In these speakers, the bass drops off really quickly below 50 Hz, which means that while you can hear the lowest bass coming out of string instruments, you end up losing a lot of the rumble from the bass drums (and explosions) that convey a sense of power. There is also an overexaggeration of the bass in the ~100 Hz range, but it's not super prominent if you don't turn up the bass knob on the side.In general, I'm extremely happy with this pair of speakers and will keep them for a while. They're a pleasure to look at and listen to and are probably the best budget speakers you can get right now (and other more experienced reviewers seem to agree). The R1700BTs highlighted just how much I was missing out on before, but they've also ignited a thirst for the hi-fi and I'm now on the look-out for my next set of speakers. I'm probably going to upgrade to pair of floorstanding speakers once I buy a house and get my own study (so I can use the same set of speakers for my computer and TV), but I'll happily keep listening to these Edifiers until that time comes.

I love the clarity and loudness of these speakers. I primarily use them for music in a multi-room Spotify player and these sound great. The bass is decent as well, and it has a sub-out if you want one. The remote is basic but works. They feel well-built and are a bit heavy like a quality unit should be. I use the RCA input and it was simply plug -and-go, very easy.

I am by no means an "audiophile" by definition, but after listening to several of my playlists through portable Bluetooth speaker(s), Pat Metheny and several other Jazz/Pop/Rock/R&B artists spoke to me through said speaker(s), suggesting that I invest in a product that brings the music forth with oomph and gravitas (as it should be), and here we are.After reading and watching several reviews, I landed on the Edifier R1700BT speakers. Hooking them up was simple, and establishing communication between the iPod and speakers was super easy, barely an inconvenience. I can control the volume through the iPod, but I'm still toying with the Bass and Treble knobs on the speakers to get a good balance of sound levels while adjusting the iPod's EQ also. As I said, I'm not an audiophile, but I like what I'm hearing so far, with deeper bass and something much closer to Stereo than the single speaker.With apologies to Mr. Metheny (the first song I played through the new setup was "Summer" by War), I think I'll be happy with my purchase for a while.

I was looking for some high quality Bluetooth capable speakers for the living room, without breaking the bank. I wanted something small, but with great sound. Read the reviews on these Edifiers and decided to try them. I figured for only $150 I wouldn't be taking too much risk if they didn't live up to the hype. Well, I'm happy to say they absolutely lived up to all the hype and more. I already expected them to be good based on the reviews, but I was still caught a bit off guard by just how good they really do sound. Quite frankly, I'm not sure how they can pull off this level of quality for the price? These speakers are quite a bit heavier than I expected and also a little bit smaller than I expected (which is nice). The cords that come with them to connect the speakers to each other, etc, are quite thick and high quality. The finish on the speakers is pristine, and they are solid as a rock. They are impressive visually - just beautiful, and sonically superb. Nothing chintzy about these speakers in any way. I'm just some guy who likes music, so I don't really know how to describe the sound from a professional standpoint, other than that they sound really clean and tight. Bass is solid and clean and absolutely not lacking, despite the small speaker size. Mids and Treble also very clean and crisp. I can really hear all the vocals well, and the highs are sharp and crisp without having that too sharp sound that is sometimes almost painful in certain speakers, if you know what I mean. They just sound good - really good. Balance of highs and lows is just really, really nice. I didn't even adjust the Bass or Treble - they sounded fantastic at the neutral adjustment setting. I did try turning up the bass just to see where it would go, and it went from tight and solid to a bit more thumping, if that's what you like. Like I said, I'm no sound pro, but I'm not a stranger to good speakers - I have some nice KEF's for my main stereo with a 240 watt amp, 80 watt separately powered sub, etc, so I feel like I have some experience with good sound. These Edifier's are as good as anything I've heard, really. Obviously, these don't get as loud as my main system, or have quite as much bass, but I don't need them to. I just wanted something nice for my living room when I want to listen to music there, and I have absolutely fallen in love with these Edifier speakers - just wonderful.Bluetooth connectivity worked great - without a hitch to my Android phone.So far I've listened to some Van Halen, Queen, Garbage, Tribe Called Quest, Led Zeppelin, Craig Finn, Fatboy Slim, Sunflower Bean, Fountains of Wayne, UB40 (on CD), and Vanity Fair. It all sounded outstanding on the speakers. I'd rate them 10 stars if I could. If you are questioning buying these, do not hesitate, you won't be sorry. I will probably buy another pair for my son who is leaving for college, as well as a pair for my cabin. Again, I really have trouble understanding how they made these so very good for such a reasonable price. But hey, who cares? Buy them and just enjoy the amazing sound, knowing you have money left to spend on music to play on them!

I’ve been using these speakers mostly for vinyl records and CDs, and I’m really happy with the quality so far. They have a clean, full sound that makes music feel a lot more enjoyable compared to smaller basic speakers. Vocals come through clear, guitars and drums have good detail, and the bass has a nice punch without sounding muddy. I was especially impressed with how good they sound with older CDs and records. They give the music a warm feel, but still keep everything clear enough that you can hear little details in the background.The build quality feels solid too. The speakers have some weight to them, and they don’t feel cheap or hollow. The black finish looks simple and clean, so they fit well on a shelf or desk without standing out too much. I also like that they come with a remote. It is not something I thought I would care about much, but it is actually handy when I’m sitting across the room and want to adjust the volume without getting up.Setup was pretty easy. I had them connected and playing pretty quickly, and I did not have to mess with a bunch of confusing settings. For vinyl, they work really well if you already have the right setup with a turntable and preamp. With CDs, they are just as nice, and they make my CD player feel a lot more worth using again. I’ve been going back through albums I have not listened to in years because these speakers make them sound so much better.The only thing I would mention is that they are not tiny speakers, so make sure you have enough space for them. They are not huge, but they do need a decent spot to sit. Also, if you are expecting deep room shaking bass like a separate subwoofer, these are not really that. The bass is good and balanced, but it is not going to feel like a big home theater setup. For regular music listening though, I actually prefer that because it sounds cleaner and not overdone.Overall, these are amazing quality speakers for vinyl and CDs. They sound clear, warm, and strong without being too complicated to use. I would definitely recommend them if you want a nice upgrade for music listening and want something that feels more serious than basic computer or bookshelf speakers.

So happy I purchased these speakers. First off they shipped them really fast & packaging was excellent. Once I opened the box I was extremely surprised about how excellently made they are and they are very solid and they have some weight to them, so build quality extremely excellent. I just love the to composite rca inputs and the blu-tooth connection. My two macs, gaming pc, media center pc, laptop, ipad, nexus 5x & iPhone connected to these speakers without any trouble, it was a total breeze to hook all my gear up to these speakers via blu-tooth because every single piece of tech saw them without any trouble what so ever, unlike other blu-tooth speakers that I purchased in the past. I also hooked to the auxiliary connection on the speakers to my AGPtek HDMI /MHL Audio (SPDIF+R/L) Extractor Support Ultra HD 4K x 2K /ARC / TOSLINK Optical Audio Output + RCA L/R Audio Converter - Support Full HD 1080P, 3D, 4K*2K resolution using rca wires and this device allowsme to hook up any speakers to anything that I have that is hdmi and then it gives me a hdmi out, Spidif out & a rca out & the rca out I hooked my wire up to my edifier speakers so everything that is connected to my 8 device hdmi hub is now connected tomy new high quality Edifier speakers that I love. So all my blu-tooth devices are connected to these sweet set of speakers and all of my 8 devices that output to hdmi also now hook up to my wonder set of Edifier speakers. I just love the clear wonderful sound coming from these banging rocking two speakers, these things are awesome whether I'm listening to music on my mobile phones and tablets from an app or my sat tv, nVidia Shield Pro, Xbox, gaming pc, media center, other mini pc's and set top boxes, HD Projector, this thing totally rocks and it was the best purchase that I have done all year. Now for the Cons which is only the sad sad remote control, this thing is made very cheaply and is very light plastic and I will take a guess that it will not last as long as the speakers. This remote is very hard to use because first it's way to small and you can hardly feel the buttons especially in the dark, so you end up hitting the wrong buttons and changing by accident the output to another device, so you have to be very very careful on what button that you press because it is that new flat button style remote that I can not stand andI wish they just made a regular remote control with real buttons that you can feel preferably a back-lit remote. I am thinking about getting a harmony remote and programming it to learn the buttons on this sad sad remote, so I will be able to use a non irritating remote control instead of the cheap junk of a remote controller that came with these wonderful speakers. Also for some reason this remote also some how when I'm listening tomusic andI decide to turn up the volume, it decides to turn on or off my TV because apparently itlooks like this remote is on the same frequency or code or something as my TV,but being how I just purchased a new TV, I will see if it does the same thing with my new TV on the way. I'm not taking any stars away from these excellent speaker for that remote control because I can deal with that my self by adding a harmony to the mix and plus I purchased this product for the speakers and not the remote control, so I definitely give this great sounding set of speakers the highest score that I can give them because they are totally awesome for all the uses that you see above that I use them for. They work excellent for watching movies, listening to music or outputting sound from anyone of your computers, set top boxes, cable boxes/sat boxes or mobile devices, this thing simply is a work horse at least for me with the help from my 8 port hdmi hub and my little box that I purchased here on amazon by the name of AGPtek HDMI /MHL Audio (SPDIF+R/L) Extractor Support Ultra HD 4K x 2K /ARC / TOSLINK Optical Audio Output + RCA L/R Audio Converter - Support Full HD 1080P, 3D, 4K*2K resolution , with these two devices hooked up together along side with these speakers I am able to use any device that I choose to connect to the speakers no matter the connection because these two boxes take care of that making these wonderful speakers hook up to everything that I got and believe me, me being a computer geek/tech I have a lot of tech gadgets/devices, so go buy a pair of these speakers because they rock.

I changed my office around and got a 49" Samsung Odyssey G9 monitor that has an audio out so my HDMI from my PS4 and DVI from my laptop could split the sound out to one audio. I spent hours reviewing Bose, Edifier, JBL, Sony, and a ton of knock-offs in between. I finally settled on these weighty bricks and I am so glad I did! They sound amazing! I have some passive Bose shelf speakers and the Bose Soundlink BT speaker and these speakers blow them out of the water!SETUP:The speaker's ship with a 3.5mm to RCA audio pigtail cable that I immediately plugged into the 3.5mm audio out on the gaming monitor and straight into the L/R RCA ports on the speaker (marked PC in). I was testing both the PS4 and the PC audio within 1 minute of unboxing. I then went on to hit the "Bluetooth" button on the remote and noticed the flashing blue light and immediately connected my Android phone over BT. Played a favorite YouTube Music playlist and walked 40 feet to my kitchen and advanced the playlist and adjusted the volume without any issues.SOUND:I am not an audiophile by any means but I play acoustic guitar and often record some of my own music, so there, I know something about what "good" sounds like :-). I threw on my favorite "relaxing acoustic guitar music" while I was working, between calls today, and cranked these babies to the max! NO DISTORTION! The bass was rich and booming, the eagle eye tweeters could really carry the crisp, brightness of the mid and high tones! I was shocked considering how inexpensive these speakers were!QUALITY:The hefty weight and aesthetic finish on these speakers make me feel like I bought something in the $600 price range. They are so well made, have great contrast between the faux wood grain and the matte black finish and I love that they angle up and away from the desk to carry the sound spatially around my desk area. Very premium quality!SUMMARY:All in all, I love these speakers and I have been trying all sorts of sound effects through them, and vocals, guitars, and even gaming have the right pickup and decay with the built-in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and Dynamic Range Control (DRC) to avoid distortion. You want to hear what they really can do, listen to "Stringscapes" by Alan Gogall on "eleven" (some unabashed Spinal Tap humour) :-)

I may not be a sound engineer but trust me I know how I like my music to sound. I have multiple sound systems ranging from the likes of high end discrete Onkyo and Yamaha Aventage Dolby Atmos Home Theatre systems to Bose LifeStyle to Vacuum Tube Stereo Setups paired with some of the best speakers like Focal Chorus 836W, Paradigm, KEF, JBL, Definite Technology , Jamo, Pure Acoustics and Bose 901 that one can lay his hands on. All these setups have been solution-ed with the sole objective of hearing the best possible sound for the occasion.Of course these setups cannot be compared to a pair of measly computer speakers in this case the Edifier R1700BT Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers - Active Near-field Studio Monitors - Powered Speakers 2.0Given the time that one spends on the machine of choice, one cannot be wrapped in some BT or wired headphones all the time. Hence the use case for a suitable set of sound drivers to fill up the time in the hot seat - be it the office or home - laptop, desktop or your a DIY beast of a gaming rig sitting pretty with all those synced up RGBs.I am sure that there would be a whole lot of fancy names one could pick from and I too had my fair share trying out Bose, Harman Kardon, Logitech, Creative, etc. desktop decoratives besides BT jumping from Google Home Max, Apple Home Pod and Amazon Echo Plus. However, my frustration kept growing as I was not able to get that right fit for my daily driver rig.A few days back I came across reviews of various Edifier options ranging from the fancy looking Luna E e235 to some others around 5K. To cut a long story short, after reading up some reviews, comparisons and YouTube content, I settled for the Edifier R1700BT Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers - Active Near-field Studio Monitors - Powered Speakers 2.0Something just told me to go for them and they did check off all my boxes for being compact, having BT and 3.5 mm / RCA inputs and sufficiently powered for a 2.0 setup. Basic necessities for survival :-)The order was delivered in less than 12 hours. Many thanks to Amazon for that. :-) :-) :-)Unboxing (nicely seal packed in the original factory box) done, I was able to breeze through the setup of the simplistic contraption in 5 minutes flat.Powered on and hit the play button on my favourite VLC playlist.The 1700BT redeemed itself with flying colors as I sequenced from one track to the next.First of all I was really satisfied with the sound that filled the room - rich and sweet across the range and different genres. Some may say that the bass is a little boomy - I may agree a tad but it certainly wasn't muddy or cloudy. Mids and highs were great.... crystal clear and the best part was the realistic sound stage created. Enabling the equalizer and fine tuning the frequency controls produced just the sound I was looking for.Crank up the volume and the benign and laid back looking boxes (maybe due to their practical 10 degree backward slope design) start flexing their muscles without breaking a sweat. Boy! they do really get loud - not that ear shattering cracked up sound but a powerful harmonious wave punching it's way across the house like a heavyweight boxer.The remote is a huge boon - tiny but extremely functional. The build quality of the speakers is classy and subtle.I strongly recommend this set of speakers for your desktop, laptop or that gaming beast with a very definitive statement - Sweet natural sound - Best value for money that delivers for any occasion that your computing session may challenge it with.
