Q: After removing the first boot- How do you remove the second boot without putting your foot / sock on the dirty side you just used?

When I use it, I put my muddy "2nd" boot just on the end of the beetle, hook the first boot off then put my "sock" foot on the main body, hook and pull !! or keep a piece of cloth or plastic underneath to put on top when its dirty .

Q: Does this boot remover have something to protect the heel of the boot as it is pulled off?

Hi no there is nothing on the remover to protect your boot but as it takes seconds to remove the boot using the remover it hasn't marked or damaged my heels or boots so far. It's been great especially when I've been walking the dog and taking off boots which are muddy and wet. if you were wearing fancy boots though you might have to take care or not use this to remove them. It looks great at my back door and useful to boot (excuse the pun)! I hope this is helpful.
