This is great! Best I’ve used in all my years.
This was a bit to put together. Instructions are not very explanatory.Once together it does lay down a nice spread and evenly. Better than any of the S products I’ve used. One thing I noticed is this says 50 lb. I was under the understanding that it holds 50lbs of product to spread. It doesn’t. At best 35lbs. It was practically full with a 32 lb bag of Milorganite. There’s no way it holds 50lbs.On the plus side. You don’t have to buy a edge guard for it and I didn’t know this. Once I started using it I noticed only there to the right side. I stopped and looked underneath and there’s a switch. You push it to the right and then you get a full spread. That is super nice and I had no idea! This thing pushes like nobody’s business. Easy and smooth with the big tires compared to others plastic wheels. I love it and I would definitely buy again or recommend buying it. It’s pricy but it’s well built and already has a built in edge guard.**UPDATE** July 20,2019. well after using this a few times in a week, I do have to say it is rather horrible at emptying out. When you get through the material to spread and have about half a cup left in the bottom, it’s like a fight to get it to flow out. You have to actually wiggle and bounce it to get the stuff out.Other than that, it’s a nice spreader.

Very easy to use and spreads fertilizer fast - saving me time on my large yard!
I purchased this to replace my 1.5 year old Scott's broadcast spreader and I am happy with the Earthway spreader already. The spreader is very sturdy and easy to use. The Earthway spreader weighs more than my other spreader but the Earthway spreader seems like it is built to last much longer than my other spreader. I like how you don't have to hold in a lever to spread the fertilizer and instead just flip a switch on and off when you want to, thus reducing extra stress on your hand. I also like the drive wheel with the cotter pin, which is better for driving the spreader gearbox as you push the spreader than my Scott's spreader that depends on perfect tire inflation and no longer works effectively after 1.5 years. The large 13 inch tires places the spreader much higher than other spreaders that enables wider and more even spreading of fertilizer, especially with wet grass. I spread certain fertilizer on wet grass as recommended by certain fertilizers. I like how the Earthware spreader also comes with a grate, which catches the caked up fertilizer as you pour in the fertilizer ,that other spreaders do not have. You can easily see and break up the caked up fertilizer by hand. I realize that this spreader costs more initially but if it lasts three years it will cost less than the Scott's broadcast fertilizer that needed to be replaced in 1.5 years. My only complaint and the basis for the 4 stars rather than 5 stars is that it took 2 hours to assemble the product from closed box to be able to use it. The hard copy instructions were hard to see and lacked effective figures (pictures) that resulted in me trying to figure out steps and having to undo and redo steps when I figured out things were not correct. I highly recommend you use the instructions on the internet, watch videos posted by those that have put the spreader together, and look at pictures of the completed spreader and you should be able to assemble the spreader in one hour. The one benefit of putting it together is really understanding how it works.

Spreads evenly. Really nice "edge guard" feature.
It arrived quickly and went together fairly easily. It spreads product evenly about 3-5 feet to the left, forward, and right (depending on the product weight and your walking speed), yielding a pattern from 6 to 10 feet wide overall. The edge guard is very effective, while not saturating that edge with product as some of the cheaper units will do.I did have one assembly issue in connecting the lower feed selection rod into the central pivot. I looked at the instructions carefully and the factory assembly video that you can find on YT. First of all, they contradicted each other on which end is which. Once I figured out the correct orientation (i.e. the only way it made sense), I still found that I needed to make more of a bend in the rod for the top connection. As received, the bend was perhaps at 80 degrees; I bent it to the full 90 (as I think was intended as is required for smooth movement). Also, with the handle extended to its middle position, the rod that connects the adjustment lever to the pivot lever is at its furthest extension when adjusted properly. That's OK, but would be better if that rod were a half inch longer. One disappointment: I'd expect proper brass bearings for the wheel axle rather than the plastic bushings supplied. The plastic bushings work, and I'll make sure to keep it lubricated to avoid wearing them prematurely, but at this price point I think that we ought to get proper brass bushings there. Anyway, have the capability to make my own if I need to.I also added extra washers and blue loctite to several of the assembly points, as I think that they would eventually loosen otherwise.I'm still giving this five stars because of the excellent performance of the spreader -- which is what really counts. It's a nice even pattern, the wheels are large and grippy, and it's lightweight for easy pushing. I can easily complete a fertilizer application on my half-acre yard in less than a half hour, with no stress or strain. Recommended.
