A German classic
I first learned about Speick when a friend of my Dad brought me back a small sample bar from a recent trip to Germany. At the time, I was horrendously allergic to *anything* scented. So no bubble baths, lotion, etc--nothing. I remember being intrigued by the scent--not perfume-ish, but a nice clean-smelling, "soapy" herbal scent. I tried it (cautiously), and to my utter amazement, didn't break out in a massive rash as usual. That pretty much hooked my 12 year old scent-loving self. Now I'm older, I've gone back to it--first as a whim on a trip to Germany, and now a regular buyer. Speick makes a whole line of products, but my favorites are the bodywash (Deo-dusch) and the original soap. The scent is fantastic--energizing and relaxing at the same time. From what I've read, the two main ingredients are lavender and alpine valerian, the latter which is called speick in German. The soap itself is super gentle--leaves skin feeling super clean but not overly dry. It lathers nicely (even in fairly hard water), and on occasion I've even used it as a shaving soap in a pinch. Lately, I've started using it as a face wash--most products just have too much moisturizer in them and my skin feels greasy again very quickly. I also have some problems with acne, and right now my skin's about the best it's ever been. The scent may not be for everyone, but if you like other classic German scents such as 4711 and Tosca, you'll probably like Speick. yes, it's a bit expensive, but I think it's worth it.

My favorite soap
I've been using Speick soap for 15 or more years. It's gentle on the skin, doesn't cause dryness during the dry winter months and the scent is pleasant, whether it's a morning shower or evening. (I find many scents "nice" when smelling them during the day, but obnoxious first thing in the mornings.)During the last 15 years, I've tried many other soaps claiming gentle, moisturizing properties, and I keep returning to Speick as the least likely to dry my skin and cause itchy spots during the winter.

Overpriced, But Great Soap
This is an example of a great product that is sold on Amazon at an inflated price. The 3-pack works out to be over $7.00 per bar of soap. The soap should be priced at about $4.00 per bar of soap. Even at that price it would be on the higher end of the market. Amazon is losing market share and its branding reputation due to products being sold at inflated prices. Again, if money is no concern, then I highly recommend the product.

Awesome Soap - Great Potpourri too!
I love this soap, grew up with it and even after leaving Germany, relatives sometimes supplied us with this soap and we'd hoard it as best we could. Now this soap is on Amazon - I'm so happy! The scent is unique, so much so, I put the left-over bits in a nylon 'baggie' from cut up panty hose in the closet, in drawers, everywhere. It's clean smelling, not floral, not musky or fruity... it's impossible to describe how clean it smells and it washes great of course and rinses clean. Even got my husband to appreciate it so he'll keep he happily supplied with this soap once the last stash I got runs out. The recipe seems to have changed - or it was the fact that what I had stashed away was bought when they still used German currency rather than EU currency. LOL! Potpourri

That's a strong deodorant soap!
Speick has a unique smell and how you feel about that will decide how you feel abount the product because it's strong and persistent... I can still smell the soap from my morning shower at bedtime! If you have designs on wearing any other fragrance after showering with Speick you should definitely reconsider, because nothing else will be noticeable. It's pretty nice, a spicy, manly scent, and would probably cover some pretty serious BO, should you happen to need to do that. Not irritating on skin or drying on hair, IMO. I agree with comments about the 4$/bar price, which is a bit excessive for a 3.5oz personal-sized bar, but it's still one of my favorites.

Unique and effective
The real stuff. When I worked in Germany, all of the finer hotels would provide this soap in little tiny bars that I took home with me. I just loved the smell of really strong pine needles that have been baking in the hot sun. I also liked the way it felt as if it completely washed off, except for the scent. I felt amazingly clean and fresh. Women would ask about my cologne but I wasn't wearing any. I could never find this in the USA so I stocked up when I went to Germany. Then I went without until finally!, I can buy it here. A little goes a long way, just let it dry out after each use. There is just something unique and compelling about the scent. Not sweet, not strong, not overpowering just nice and uncommon. It lasts all day and very is enjoyable to smell.
