This book won't be helpful, and surprised me with some specific religious discussion.
I got this book in hopes it would help me in explaining Cancer to my child. I'll be returning it instead. While there are positive topics discussed, there are some things that either bothered me or were just not the right fit.1. Surprise religion. While I understand there are some people with a priest or minister that would want to help encourage their children to pray, not everyone fits in that category. I feel it is disingenuous to not mention that this has references to God and religion at all in the description.2. Informational, not a story. This doesn't help "paint a picture" with a story to help explain cancer or feelings surrounding it. It's written more like a textbook. Not necessarily a problem, but it wasn't what I expected and I hope that by mentioning this, it helps inform other potential buyers.3. Random names used without introduction. On some pages, a name (Grandpa Pete who smoked cigarettes, Aunt Karen, Bobby, Sarah were names that randomly were selected) was used without an introduction to a character. My first thought would be that my child would say "but I don't have a grandpa Pete" or "oh no, Sarah has Cancer? The Sarah from my class?" With a book written like this, using names this way distracts from the topic more than it helps.4. Age group. With the religious and random names taken out of the picture, I would say that this book is probably most geared toward kids that can read on their own, probably age 8-11.Finally, if you are reading these reviews, you are probably also in a position where you or someone you love has cancer. I'm deeply sorry. Cancer is an unfair, terrible (type of) disease, and it's not easy. Hang in there.

Great book to help explain a difficult situation
Great book to help explain a difficult situation. It talks about how your feelings are okay, you may miss out on some fun things because of hospital visits, your loved one still wants you to talk about fun you have and that you should ask an adult when you have questions about things going on.

great!
Great for kids! There is one page that mentions something about if a family member doesn't make it and passes away because of cancer.. (I could see this being really upsetting and bothering someone(especially if they aren't dying), but at the same time it may be able to help!) Great book over all!

Preparing daughter for Grandpa's hospice
This really helped my daughter prepare for her grandpa to come live with us while on hospice. I highly recommend. She went from being really upset, to matter of fact about him being sick. (my daughter is 8 years old)

Excellent book to help kids with their emotions
I'm still on the hunt for a more accurate explanation of cancer for kids. This book was great in helping explain emotions that the kids would probably go thru with our family member having cancer. My 7 year old completely understood all the emotions the book talked about. I would recommend!

Excellent for children aged 8 upwards.
Bought for my children age 6,11&13 when I was diagnosed with cancer. A great book to read together or for reference. My 11 and 13 year olds preferred to look at thus alone then come to me with questions. This is written in a manner they can understand and is honest but not frightening. A little to old for the youngest one.
