A great little x86 computer board!
Pricey but exactly what I needed to set up a dedicated hard drive tester runnong Steve Gibson's "Spinrite" testing software. Spinrite is an old school x86 DOS program so Zimaboard offered the perfect solution. I have it booting SpinRite from a USB flash drive. The Zimaboard setup is small enough to be easily broken down and stored when not in use, and quickly set up again. Specs are modest but it isn't meant for applications requiring lots of speed and resources.

Getting started.
I am totally new to this and still trying to get it up and running. From what I understand, the OS is bundele with a GUI that will help anyone easily navigate the OS and not have to know command lines. If this works as advertised, I will be very happy. Will update when I get it up and running and see how it really works.Update:Now up and everything is working as it should. Folders, accounts and links to programs are all there when you first login. A few more tutorials should get me up to speed soon. For now I really, really like how simple this is to use. After I connected this to my modem the user interface came up stright away. Then my cable modem reported possible security issues with this device and blocked access to it from web.. I shut it down until I can resolve that issue and add a fan to keep it and the 2 HDDS cool. I will update when I get that sorted out. If I didn't have any security measures in place it probably wouldn't be a known issue.Last update:I really like how easy this is to setup. Other devices, like NASs or a servers are much more complicated to me. This gets you up and running quickly with little effort on the users part. My network is protected with software so getting this configured isn't an issue. Personally I just need more time to do that, being a newbie and all. Compared to other systems that hog resources and cost 3 to 5 times more, I think this is the better choice. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Duuhh, Sorry.****-----****Reading the comments of Xbox Gamertag (3 stars only), and in the second comment he says:"2. Sometimes Zima gets into a weird state and will not power on. Plugging in the power cable makes the power light flash once and turn off. To fix this you have to disassemble the case and unplug the CMOS battery which is thankfully socketed, then power it up. I've observed this happens the most when any kind of sleep or hibernation feature turns on. If you didn't know this, you'd just think it was dead and return it as junk. Be sure to disable all sleep, hibernation, and power saving OS options to avoid this."That is happening to my ZB and was this close to return the item. I will hold to it for a couple more weeks and see if I can withstand the hassle.Going from 2 to 3 stars. I will update my comment in case there is something worth mentioning.3 photos attached showing acrylic base removed and Brass Spacers Standoffs added.UPDATE (SEP 7, 2024):I installed pfSense as my personal firewall and router, working great so far. Nothing to complain about. Zero issues.

While it boasts ECC memory, install your os of choice on a ssd, or nvme.
Fantastic little SBC. Easy to transport and leave on site for overnight network analysis. My only complaint is the lack of IO, however that's nothing a usb splitter can't resolve. I'm using it on a daily basis, and I will continue to do so until it breaks, or I die of natural causes. I've added legs with m3x0.5x14 mm knurled thumb screws to lift it up and prevent added pcie cards from contacting anything below. While I've never used it as a server, it sure excels as a diagnostics pc. Excellent product, and a purchase I don't regret.

Reliable, Intel based, fanless = quiet
I have 3 of these in a Proxmox cluster. Not a powerhouse, but it takes care of fair bit of things, mostly with LXC containers and lighter VMs. I wish it came with at least 16GB of RAM instead, but it is what it is. It's quiet, not too warm, you can plug 2 SSDs in it, and it's solid this far.Frankly more stable and more reliable than the other 4 NUCs in the same cluster. I will try a Blade next time, stick a bit more RAM in them and see how it goes.
