The instructions don't spell out the setup very well. It took me about 5 minutes to figure out how to set the stride length. There isn't a down button function so I had to go up from the preset 30 stride until it reset to 0 and then push the up button (actually the reset button) until I hit 25, which is my stride. It would be helpful for the instructions to mention this quirk.After I had it set right, I clipped the pedometer to a waist high pocket on my shirt. Although my pants and top aren't very thick and the pedometer was clipped at my waist, the step counter didn't work. I had to clip it directly to my pant waist under my shirt and then it worked just fine. On the plus side, it’s reasonably intuitive if you’ve ever set up any electronic devices before. But to complicate matters, once the unit is placed in setup mode, it defaults back to the run mode if a button is not pressed within a very short span of time. Once I figured out how to program it, I had to put it back into setup mode six times before I could complete the setup. Once that is done, the pedometer functions quite well within the limitations that all pedometers share.This speedometer, like the one that I had as a kid 60 some odd years ago, relies on the movement of a pendulum to count steps. The optimal position on the body for this to occur is directly above the hip bone. Total distance is calculated by multiplying the number of steps times the stride length which you set during the pendulum setup. But stride length continuously varies during the course of the day. Stride length is shorter inside the house than outside and drastically shorter in limited space areas. When you combine this with very short steps that may not move the hip enough for the pendulum to complete a cycle, the results cannot be 100% accurate. But it is good enough to give you a general idea of steps taken and distance covered. The feature of this pedometer to display the last seven day’s totals gives you a good reference for how much you’ve walked one day compared to the last six.This is a nice pedometer which works quite well within a pedometer’s limitations.
