Riz Shella - Diri Shella - Rice Shella - Directly from Haiti - 100% Ayisyen

It was easy to cook and absolutely delicious; I even felt like I was back home! 😄

I don’t usually write reviews specially anything negative of any product . I value our farmers their products and the providers. This particular product should not be in the market to sell . If I had known I would never order this RICE I bought it to make at a special event in my house. Luckily my sister was in town and was present when it was delivered Because she had that same product and was trashed it the same day she made it She was right. I cooked a few ounces just to try on before my event I was glad I did. I cannot find no words to describe neither the smell nor the taste. Terrible. I just did as my sister. TRASHED $25.00 + this product should definitely removed from Amazon

Excellent quality rice. It has a great texture—not too sticky—and a very clean taste. It cooks up perfectly every time and pairs well with stews and beans. Definitely a staple for my kitchen now.

This is an organic rice. The smell makes it authentic. Many Haitian-American do not like the smell unfortunately. You may wash it with lemon to cut out the smell. This rice tastes good mixed with beans. It is very expensive in Haiti and this rice is served in all high end hotels and restaurants in Haiti. Please Amazon, keep selling it to authentic Haitian. I am going to purchase some more. Thank you!

Why did you pick this product vs others?: Bought it because I saw a special on tv that said it contained less heavy metals. It was fine the first time but a few weeks later smelled distinctively like DOG POOP when I opened the bag again! It went into the trash!!!

Ok so it does have a distinct kombucha type fragrance that is different from any other rice. Du Riz Shella, or Shella Rice from Haiti, has a strong, earthy aroma due to its natural processing methods. It’s also what gives it this beautiful golden color. Unlike some commercially available rice varieties that are pre-treated for a milder scent, Shella Rice retains its distinct, authentic fragrance, Some sources suggest that it may have a odor, which is a result of its traditional cultivation and complex drying process. 1. Rinsing the rice multiple times (at least 5 times) in fresh water. 2. Using lemon or lime juice in the final two rinses to neutralize the earthy smell.

I haven't cooked it so I can't speak to the taste and consistency. However, I am very disappointed with the size. This is way overpriced for such a tiny little bag. If you wish to compete in this market, I encourage you to consider a price reduction. I paid $22 for the big bag in the picture, the same type of rice. UPDATE I really wanted to love this rice. I tried to find something good in this rice. However, I couldn't find not one thing I liked. The smell is repugnant, the grain is not consistent with the usual long-grain rice. This was so disappointing. On the bright side. I really enjoyed the cassava. I've actually reordered the Cassava.
