Is it possible to disable the audio earphone level protection mechanism imposed by the EU ?

There's a bit of confusion with these answers.

You can disable the automatic volume limiter system (AVLS) by going into the menu system, and the Sony manual will show you how.

But....it WON'T remove the volume cap set at the factory, which Sony impose on the player to comply with EU regulations, and this is the setting which causes the problems. You might think that the available volume is loud enough for you, but if you compare to older players you'll quickly realise that you're having to increase the volume substantially to get anywhere near the same degree of clarity. I found myself going from using just under 50% of the volume on my older player to 75-80% on the NW-A45, and even then it still sounded squashed and lifeless.

However, there is an (unauthorised) fix online. If you visit https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SonyNWDestTool , there are instructions on how to change the destination setting on the player, and if you change the destination to "U" (for United States) the volume cap will be removed. It took me only minutes to do this, and I can vouch for the ease and success.

Now I barely need to push the NW-A45 player's volume beyond 50%, and I'm hearing far more clarity and detail than ever before.

It's annoying that consumers have to resort to this to unlock the true potential in this excellent product, but using this fix will cost you nothing but a few minutes, instead of spending more money on different earphones to try to get a better sound.

Question 2

can this player be read by the car music system?

If your car has Bluetooth then the music on the player can be skipped through,stopped,paused etc using the cars unit controls on the steering wheel. However as far as showing the track details, I simply pop the Sony in a phone holder so I can see its screen, since the info isn't shown on my rather basic car stereo.

Question 4

Can the player be connected via Bluetooth to two separate speakers for stereo sound?

The manual says "you can listen to music stored on your Walkman from Bluetooth audio devices such as headphones or speakers", but I guess it can make only one connection at a time.  So only one speaker unless you can connect to a single intermediary device to which two speakers are connected.
