Its a good book for those who work for individual clientes but ...
Its a good book for those who work for individual clientes but its not a good book for those how work on fashion industry, and this is why: there are many measurements required on the construction of the bodice sloper that the autor doesnt provide in the table chart measurements, for exemple:- Half the front and back to mid-armhole- Shoulder tip to centre front and back waist- Side seam length- High neck point to front and back side seamWell, when you work for a big range of sizes you must have those measurements, like, for exemple, helen armstrong provide in her books.Has we know, if its not possible to make this basic sloper, it's not possible to do all the models made from them, like coats, jackets...It would be nice if the author, Lori Knowles, provide the missing measurements for those who work for fashion industry...Same problem with the womenswear book by Lori Knowles.Best regards!

NOT SPIRAL BOUND
The book is not spiral bound as it is advertised. After a return, Amazon again sent the book that was not spiral bound again. I imagine If I return this again, they will again send one that is not spiral bound. As a heads up, if you ever have to return an item to Amazon, you can write gibberish in the box that asks for the reason for the return; no one appears to read it. I've had this happen with other orders as well.

Everything you need.
So apparently most sewers out there buy commercial patterns and then try to fit them for whomever they are making clothes for. This involves a series of steps of copying the pattern, making the garment and then adjusting it to the body of the person you are sewing for. A much more straightforward approach is to just make a pattern that is already the right size. But how do you do that? Well, this book explains it very well. There is a brief introduction about pattern making in general. Then you are walked through a fairly tedious measuring of the body which involves about fifty distinct measurements. From this a sloper is constructed and from that you can check your work. This is the most tedious or time intensive aspect of the process but once accomplished you can sew just about anything and can much more easily adapt other people's designs for your target audience. This was a great book that took a somewhat complex task and broke it down into enough easily accomplished steps that just about anyone could do this. Pattern making is usually an advanced sewing skill that doesn't get taught until one is at least an intermediate sewer. This is a shame because with this book one is able to start making wearable clothes with out all that much sewing expertise. Getting sleeves just right is still going to take practice but you will be miles ahead of your peers with knowledge of pattern making. I highly recommend this book and I will probably be picking up the original book in the series that deals with children and women. An approachable writing style and great instruction. Five stars.

Very good pattern making book
Very good pattern making book. It has an old style feel to it for the pattern wise. But the patterns that come out are excellent. Very well fitting. If you're looking for modern fitting items, like skinny Jean's or etc, this is not the right book. This book gives you a solid firm foundation for clothing. Definitely a more luxury feel to the patterns. The patterns here are not easy!!! A lot of other pattern books are dumbed down for the creation process. Not this one! You need to be perfect with your measurements. Any slight flaw will lead in an error for the pattern. (This also included some errors in the book that really threw me off too, but there isn't too many.) Over all I'm very satisfied with this purchase!

Almost perfect
Store-bought clothes don't fit my wife and me. I grew up mastering sewing skills, so making clothes is worth the time that I put into it when I alter the patterns thoroughly. I'd rather draft my own patterns now.I spent years working on learning pattern drafting from Craftsy classes, blogs, and youtube. I couldn't get the geometry to work! I found that they used too many industry standards! Then I came across Lisa Knowles books. She uses fewer industry standards, and I'm quickly learning to apply Suzy Furer's meticulous labeling as I make progress with my slopers for us.I found that combining mens' and womens' patternmaking principles has been very helpful for creating slopers that fit our bodies.

Very thorough and accurate book
I highly recommend this book for menswear patternmaking. It is very complete, with sections and patterns for all the major casual wear types, including denim jackets, jeans, and t-shirts. If you want to make your own clothes, this book and a good sewing reference (The Sewing Book) will get you there.
