There are some really cheap, flimsy game sets out there, whose only selling point seems to be their compact size. (Some, in fact, are downright microscopic.) Some sets seem as though merely breathing on them is going to harm them in some way. Not this set. A 6 by 12 inch board folds out to 1 foot square: not the MOST compact, but also not so small that you won't enjoy playing on it. The board itself is sturdy, which is a must, and the pieces are made well, look attractive, feel good in the hand, and can be moved around without any difficulty. (My one complaint: the dice COULD be a bit larger, but dice are so cheap that if that's an issue for you, just throw your own dice in there for backgammon and problem solved.)If space is at an absolute premium for you, then you may need to find something a bit smaller. However, if you can afford the bit of extra space this board requires, then it's very much worth having. It looks great, it's not so small that it's awkward to use, and, of course, who can go wrong with three fantastic games in one? The magnetic board helps keep the pieces in place, but it's not a terribly strong magnetic force, so if you're going to play in the backseat of a moving car, still hope for a smooth ride. This is the best travel set I've seen yet for taking such excellent games on the go, and, to be honest, if your budget requires a travel set to be your primary at-home set, too, this is still a very decent way to accommodate that.

I absolutely love this mini chess set! I wouldn’t recommend it for kids, though, as the pieces are small and easy to lose. The magnetic pieces that stick to the board are a lifesaver. If you’re a chess lover or just looking for a portable chess set, this is perfect. It’s super easy to pack up and take with you anywhere. Overall, it’s an amazing invention.

It is sturdy enough and it does a really good job for easy clean up from when my children are done playing with this game.

Easy to use and very compatible for my needs. I pack this in my grip at work and it’s just the right size. Pieces have magnets in the bottom of them and that’s a BIG plus! Would definitely recommend. Quality and durability is top notch!

I bought this for my son because he wanted to learn chess for U.I.L so I got him a chessboard, he loved it. it was easy to set up and was magnetic so that was a plus it would stay still and it wouldn't fall over. Worth every penny has good quality great size it is portable great appearance best purchase I've made on amazon yet! Child approved

Although the 20cm travel chess set is compact and easy to carry, the quality could be better. The pieces are made of plastic, and while the magnets are strong enough to hold them in place even upside down, the overall design is quite basic. There are visible injection marks that make the pieces look less refined. The small size of the pieces also makes it difficult to distinguish between certain ones, like the rook and queen, or the pawn and bishop, which is another downside. This makes it unsuitable as a first chess set for children.I also noticed that the board's hinges are made of plastic, raising concerns about their durability over time. Additionally, some product photos were misleading, showing a larger set and even a rook with a completely different design. While this set might work for occasional travel, I’m not confident it will hold up in the long run. I’ll probably use it as a decorative piece in my office rather than for playing. Overall, I would recommend it only if you're looking for a small, travel-ready chess set.
